Good effort, that's great. Got my test hopefully in about a month or so....

I know the feeling, passed my car test without any lessons. (Lots of off road driving, riding push bikes and motor bikes, oh yeah, and paying attention when I was a passenger!)

5.5k for a 1st bike is a lot.

I'd save £3k and spend it on riding/trackdays/touring etc.

2.5 should get a decent K3/4 GSXR 600 I would have thought...

EDIT....

Like this for example, apart from the gash seat that is...

No more advice then, you know what you want, so why ask?

Ebay showed K7 gixxers for that money.

I'd never have an R6 myself, but for no real reason other than chavs like them.

In fact, I'd never have another GSXR 600 either if I had much choice about it!

I bought my 'dream' GSXR SRAD immediately after passing my test.

Dropped it off the sidestand the next day, crashed it within 6 months - nothing too major but it sure isn't mint anymore.

Despite seeing the amount of flame and shit you've given/recieved, well done Thumbs Up

Take care on a bigger bike, its a whole different ball game...you obv on 33hp, so a GSXR or R6 will be a bit naff 33hp i reckon?

Still, good luck and i know how it feels to want to buy an awesome bike, but I bought a mint condition 04 Triumph Daytona for £2700, insurance was £200 then renewal was £97.50...

How much is insurance? Will you have a garage? I reckon, start at 2k the most, just incase something happens.

Pretty damn good deal there for new bikes.

Drop the 5.5k (or a portion of it) as a deposit and get something you'll be proud to ride for years to come.

Nice and shiny bikes ROCK and don't take any comments of "you're gonna drop it" to heart.

<< dropped 5.5k on an XJ6-S.
edit:

Ah you're on a restricted licence.

Meh... not so sure now tbh, might be worth getting a junker to get you through your restricted period.

Well done on passing your test, cant say 5k on a 1st bike is a good idea, 2-3k will get you a mint sportsbike that wll be as fast as anything new on the road, but its your money so buy whatever bike you fancy.

One thing to bare in mind is if your going to uni, factor in that most student accomodation will not have a garage so you will be stuck to leaving it outside on the road.

Several of my uni mates bikes have been sat on and pushed over/dropped by drunken idiots on their way home from a night out who think its ok to deface your property

So be prepared to either sell the bike before uni, or leave it on the street for asshats and theifs to take a pop at it

Congrats on passing your tests all first time! I've got my Mod2 retest in a couple of weeks (weather permitting), but on the subject of spending on a first bike, why not just get something cheap and cheerful for a few hundred quid for the first few months. That way, if you scrape it, bend it, ding it while parking... the things you normally do when experiencing your learning curve, you won't be bothered as it's just a runabout.

It was 162 mph ok :l What are you trying to achieve by posting your shit? I passed my test today and have grands waiting to buy what I've always wanted, I couldn't care less about your shit

Surprised

I would go for something a little less expensive like a k2 gsxr, 636Bh1 etc rather than blowing a serious amount of money on something you will never get the full potential out of (not that you will with the k2 either). Save the rest of the money for a rainy day or a trackbike so you can do a couple of trackdays.

And by the way, we really don't care if you did 162mph. It doesn't make you big or clever, it just makes you come across as someone who just wants a willy waving bike with a look at how fast I can go attitude Wink

On the road it will still be quick enough, but not as easy to lose your liscense, alot cheaper to run and insure and if you drop it down the road it will be relatively unharmed compared to a faired bike.

I got a £5.5k for my first road bike, it was a 2006 R6, bloody loved it!

On my second road bike now, 2009 CBR1000RR

I'm not dead yet, so it can't be that much of a bad idea Wink

lol dont think its to do with dieing, as a 3k bike will go as fast as a 07 bike, its that mistakes are more likely to occur with your first bike and it will hurt less if the bike is cheaper to begin with
