Rargle fragle time to finally do my test

So my Yankee licence has finally expired and I need to do my full uk test.

Is it possible to do the test on my own bike if so how do I go about insuring it.

A couple of mates have recently done the new test so I know what I have to do I just don't like the idea of spending 500 odd quid on training and doing the test, I have been riding 7 odd years so think I can do it with out being shown how to ride a geared bike and what not.

I think the US test is seen as inferior to ours, something like that anyway.

My area manager at work is from the states and he couldn't swap over his car licence.

His license is expired... Doesn't matter what country it's from now.

You can try and book yourself, but it won't be cheap to do a one day test thing. You will need an instructor for insurance purposes on their bike I would imagine since you won't have a valid one here.

Provisional license, theory, phone around for anyone willing to do 1 days training and test.

It might be worth having a session with an instructor just to make sure you're doing all the right head-checks etc... iron out any habits they might not like...

as above, might be an idea to have a lesson just to iron out any bad habits.

As for insurance, i took my MOD2 on my dads (at the time) ZZR600. I had an NSR125 with fully comp insurance which included riding other bikes - it stated i could ride any bike aslong as it was legal and within the terms of my licence, so i like to think that as i was riding the ZZR with L-Plates and in contact with an examiner then i was insured. in reality, if i'd have had an accident, i'm sure the insurance would have tried to get out of it, but i didn't so it worked out alright, and the examiner didn't need to see proof of insurance etc. As for MOD1 - it's all offroad anyway, so i'm sure you could stick some L's on your bike, and get a mate to ride it there for you no problems.

Blue balls* is the most excruciating pain ever. Achieved by working yourself up (or being worked up) until you are about to jizz and then not, repeat several times making sure not to jizz, the next day you will have blue balls.

*Not sure why its called blue balls, they didn't go blue. They did hurt like fuck though.

This has made me wonder, can you insure any size bike on a provisional to be ridden with L's under supervision, for purposes of training and test?

Mate of mine had it done when his international driver's permit was still valid - He did his test on his own FZ6 so I know it can be done. Technically speaking because you have a british license for your car, I was quite surprised that your US license + international driving permit would have been valid because i've seen on a load of these police programmes that the moment you're in possession of a provisional, that's it, it takes precedence over any other license! A tad gash I know. But my mate Josh even managed to do his bikesafe course before doing his DAS on his FZ6 back in 2005 whilst on his international license.

He managed to get his bike insured on his international license - 30% added premium but insured nonetheless. As a result of this insurance in his hand, the training school allowed him to ride his own bike during the instructional periods and DAS. He DOES hold a license for the period when he's not in the training albeit an international and bike IS taxed and insured. So it didn't fire off the police computers and the cops on the bikesafe course didn't bat an eyelid.

Not sure how it'll wash down now with the Mod1 and Mod2 deeleys. But it had been done previously. You'll need to talk to somebody more in the know. Shame you didn't it sorted before you went over to NC back in 2007/8!
