More Chinese rubbish

I bought a brand new Superbyke RMR 125 2 years ago and it ready for the scrapheap even though I've serviced it and procared every inch. The tales of woe started 2 weeks after delivery when the bolts securing the rear sprocket sheared! Next was the starter solenoid, next was the mudguard bush, next was the mud guard, Next was the rear light cluster. The cylinder head metal is so soft that it is virtually impossible not to cross thread the spark plug when replacing and now the silencer has corroded and needs replacing, however, Superbyke don't have any in stock until the new year and the only other supplier ordered in a bunch of silencers the were 20 inches long rather than 21 inches that the superbyke requires. If I had of gone for a 2nd hand jap bike for a little more I wouldn't have had half the trouble. So my advice to anyone thinking of buying chinese rubbish........don't bother.

Ouch, bad luck. I can't remember ever reading anything good about any Chinese-branded SuperEnduroMotardCrosser stylee bike, and I suspect that's because they're mostly sold to export markets so they really don't give a stuff about quality or reputation. I'd agree: avoid.

I'm specifically talking about the offroad-styled bikes - and while we're at it, the psuedo-sportsbikes - not the commuters. I've been led to believe that most of the non-commuter styled bikes end up in shipping crates, so the only pressure on the manufacturers is to cut prices, not increase quality and brand loyalty.

If you've got any specific information about the Chinese market, I'd love to hear it - most of what we know over here is hearsay.

Seems plausible. I've heard that there are (about) 4 big State bike manufacturers and 4 commercial ones. The State ones are cheaper, but not held in much regard. The commercial ones are the outfits that Japanese manufacturers outsource to. Whether you believe that bikes come off the same production line and get either Lifan or Yamaha VINs slapped on them alternately is very much a matter of faith.

It's hard to keep track of it all, as the branding for export markets changes at the drop of a hat. I'd give a cautious thumbs up to Dihao bikes, but over here, exactly the same Dihao bike is sold as the Lexmoto Vixen, Haotian HT125-8, Superbyke RCC125 and Huoniao HN125-8. There are almost identical looking bikes available that aren't Dihaos though, but really, how would you know what you're buying? It's not like importers bother to market based on the actual manufacturer, or on quality, they just compete on lowest price for bikes with the same paper specifications.

That's why it's so hard to recommend Chinese-branded bikes - you just don't know if the next shipping container off the boat is even going to contain the same bikes that you're recommending.
