Bare in mind the noise has only started happening since having a new clutch fitted around 1500 miles ago.
So yeah when i go in reverse i get a like whining draggy noise like something isnt gripping. It will only happen for a little bit like for the first few yards of actually reversing then go.
So any ideas, reckon its a problem or just my new clutch bedding in or something.
Not really a master when it comes to four wheels hence being on a motorbike forum Thumbs Up

The clutch works in the same direction for both forward and reverse gears so it won't be that.

Hmm strange.
Like i say its only started since having a new clutch.
Forgot to add when its hot/bin drove for a while it doesnt really do it if at all.
So like you say the clutch works in the same way dispite your direction. So with it not doing it any other gear im struggling to see what it could be.
Oh and thinking about it the harder i go in reverse the louder it is, like if i take it really slowly i can eliminate the noise.
Cheers

I take it a Punto has straight-cut reverse gears like most cars?

If it sounds like the standard reverse "whine" but worse it may be something to do with the reverse gear? When straight-cut gears move against eachother they make a noticable whine, it also gets worse as you probably know when you go faster but it doesn't just dissapear as the journey goes on.

It's the same whine the 675 makes has because it has straight-cut gears unlike most bikes.

Most bikes DO have straight-cut gears, in the gearbox at least.

Italian manufactured vehicles are normally quite good when reversing. WW2 tanks were especially good.

Sorry, I meant to put straight-cut split gears for the balancers, as far as I know the 675 is the only bike that uses that setup hence the distinctive whine.

When they removed the gearbox to change the clutch did they loose any gear oil, and did they top it up again?

Has the noise just started since the clutch change (refer to above) or has it always been there and you are a bit over sensitive to the car at the moment (can happen when undertaking major work / paying large ammounts)

Cheers,
Stalk
