I'm a bit of a tit really!

Was talking to my mate for about 15mins next to my bike and i forgot that I had turned the key so all my lights was on! Battery almost died but had just enough power to start the bike.

So I thought best give the bike a bit of a run so i took it on a 5 mile run to give the battery a good charge!

Went to go to work today and I could hear the starter motor not turning as fast as it normally does so I thought it must be my battery dying so I rode about 12 miles to buy battery for £30.

Come outside after buying the battery started and the bloody battery turned the starter motor over fine this time!

No problems after work so I thought id leave it over night and see if I had any problems in the morning!

Nope, battery was fine!

I'v never let my battery get flat before and I was guessing a good 4 mile ride was needed to charge it. I was wrong. I'm guessing you need to give you bike a good 20mile ride before the battery is fully charged again. Well that was needed on my XR!

Going to keep the battery just in case I need to replace it at some point!

Get it on an optimizer every night to keep it in good condition

Chances are it may well die, I did similar to my bikes battery last winter and even with a charger it soon needed replacing!

oh crap iv just found the battery I brought for cheaper at wemoto.co.uk

They have 25% off all batteries!

I just wanted to find out what makes Nitro batteries better then standard batteries.

can you not return the second battery?

and yeah it takes a LOT more than 4 miles to put some charge into a battery

- you don't buy a new battery until you have to bump start it a few times and it's still charged after a long ride!
And even then, as it's an XR125, you consider if it's worth it or you just bump it instead (snow may be a factor, to be fair).

Aw, bad luck. Worth a try taking it back, even if it's just for credit.

If you leave your bike outside, it might be worth buying a 12V solar charger and wiring in a lighter socket that you can plug it into. One of those has been keeping my nearly-dead car battery barely alive for 3 winters now.

I would of kept bumping it as its the most simple bike to bump. Push forward a few steps put in 2nd drop the clutch and away you go but there is snow on the way.

Dont want to be having to bump it in snow lol
