If you have then i hope snow doesn't stop you and good luck!

I've been watching the weather reports like a hawk because I've got my driving test next Wednesday and I'm going to be so peeved if it snows and gets cancelled. I've already had one test cancelled in October (examiner was ill) and had to wait this long for the next available slot.

Please don't snow!!! Praying Oh and please don't rain either, because then it will be cancelled due to ice, and I wont be able to ride my bike either!!

It has to be pretty heavy though. I remember doing both my car and bike tests in December. It was very very light and didn't stick which is probably why it wasn't canned.

Had my bike test in January. You have my full empathy. Never snowed on the day of the test but the roads were still covered.

Also bought my first bike and rode it all the way home from Newcastle in knee-high snow - first ever time on a bike. That was an experience and a half. Took me over 5 hours to get home. Personally I would never even attempt anything so stupid now but at the time it seemed fine.

So, might not be such a bad idea being thrown into the deep end in terms of learning to drive/ride in all conditions.

Good Luck. Thumbs Up

Little tip, if you have a long wait for a retest then try and get a retest somewhere else, preferably a town you don't know, more chance of one sooner. You are more likely to read the road better and subsequently drive better because you are unfamiliar with it than if you do it in a place you know, where you are likely to use your memory of junctions and what lane to be in and how busy junctions are, plus nerves won't hit you as much because you won't know you're headed for a really awkward roundabout etc.. You get given directions anyway so knowing where you're going is irrelevant.

Got my bike tests on the dates below. I really hope they don't get postponed...as I really need a licence to ride home for Xmas. Rather not do the trip on my RXS again...

Yeah, back in the day when we had snow all the time through January, my first lesson was put back and put back so many times, waiting for snow to clear... Shocked

Dont agree with that my self. When taking my mod 2 we went away from the city and through a load of villages I didnt know, made my nerves a lot worse and made me make some stupid decisions which I then failed on. The next test we went towards the city via a village I knew, passed with no minors, well 1 for not doing the lifesaver comeing into the test centre even though I bloody did Sad

Hope your test isn't cancelled, best of luck for tommorow Thumbs Up

It's looking increasingly bad for my Mod 1 on Monday at the centre near Portsmouth...I can deal with rain but I reckon any chance of ice will result in it being cancelled.

My sister's test was cancelled today. For fuck all reason. Yes there was snow, but all the snow on the roads had cleared? When I drove into Wycombe at 12 (an hour later than her test) it was completely and utterly fine.

I also disagree with phoenix.

Much easier to take the test on familiar roads in my opinion. Thats why instructors have you drive the test routes.

It may be that it's not good for a leaner, someone who hasn't driven before but for someone who already knows how to drive (bike or car) and is doing another class of test then lack of familiarity shouldn't introduce nerves and just removes complacency so i'll stick by it.

I think that may be the case for you as you drive a lot.

With me I'd drive better on roads I knew, as I would know what was around the corner.

Colin, read my original post and the reasons i've given for why I believe it to be a better idea. Do not draw on what personal knowledge you have of me to try and create your own theory about why I have suggested something.

You and Sam disagree, however it's a sound theory if you think about it and it works for a lot of people which I base on a discussion i've had with a driving instructor. Again I will mention that it is probably only better for people who already know how to drive or ride and are passing a second category. Ultimately though it lets you get a restest a lot sooner and really, if you feel that you must know the roads to pass then I would question if you are actually ready to pass. I passed two tests in unfamiliar towns, it doesn't make you fail.

I do believe that in the new year they are going to stop publishing the routes. Dunno why that is but I imagine it's to stop candidates being overly-familiar with them.

I was going to jump in with the "thats so not true" comments but actually I do agree. Did my car test 11 years ago and bike test recently in an area I didnt know very well at all. I was definately taking care and watching those speed limits, the examiner said it was a nice, safe ride and I passed.

Best of luck to everyone who has a test booked, fingers crossed that they go ahead as planned where possible.

The snow stayed away, I got to take my test and I passed! Mr. Green

About the debate on whether it's easier to do any test on familiar/ unfamiliar roads:

I did my bike test in Portsmouth in 2007. As Phoenix rightly said, it was easier for me to get a sooner test in a far away land than it was to get one at home in Southampton. I was very nervous about not knowing the area (never ridden in Portsmouth before), but it did make me think a lot more about my riding. I didn't have a chance to be complacent because I was totally focused on reading the road/ lanes properly. I passed without a single fault! Cool So personally, it worked for me.

However, I just did my car test this morning in Southampton at my local test centre. I know the area very well and know all the 'danger' spots. However, I was still panicking before I set off because my test was at 8.10am, which is a nightmare around here. As soon as I figured out the route we were taking I panicked some more because it inlcuded a lot of 'danger spots' and there was traffic everywhere. I got 5 minors (2 for road positioning, on roads i know! See, you can't get complacent!). So all in all, not bad!!

It depends on the person and how well they adapt to their surroundings, I guess. Doesn't matter where you're driving/ riding. A road is a road, no matter what your level of experience. Thumbs Up

Congrats! I'm doing my bike test near Portsmouth on Monday, unfortunately there is no test centre in Southampton any more that is set up for the off-road part of the test, so I have to make a bit of a trip. I guess that it's a good thing because I probably won't know any of the roads we use for Mod 2. It's looking wet, but above freezing at the moment but I'm not sure how much faith I should put in the forecast...

Congrats Smile. I'm supposed to have my driving test on Friday morning at 8.40. Only a couple of inches of snow here but the roads are very icy in places. We are forecast snow tonight but I'm hoping it stays off. It can snow as much as it likes after friday though :p.
