Scrap yards buy em and there are places that buy nothing but cats, can be good dough had for em at times, prices jump up and down with the scrap though.

I run a fleet of Iveco Dailys and last week I was discussing this very subject with my local dealership. Apparently Armaplate, in conjunction with Iveco, have developed a stainless steel security device that encases the cat and connects it to the vehicle with stainless steel cables and anti-tamper fixings. They cost £100 a piece and considering the price of a replacement cat and the associated downtime costs, I reckon that they're a bargain.
Edit: Does this post sound like a spam advert?

When I worked for BT a few of our exchange yards were targeted by these thieving twonks. They used pipe cutters to remove the cats from around 15 vans. A very profitable nights work for them I'm sure!!!

wouldnt it be easier to use shear head bolts on the cat fittings?

Apparently a cat can be removed in less than a minute when using a cordless saw.

I would agree with a cull.

I visited the WW2 Memorial to the 34th Heavy Bombardment group at RAF Mendlesham this year.

Here's what it looked like in 2009:

Agreed. The travelling community have more to thank those boys for than most.

There was a whole section of Hitlers "final solution" just for them.

I almost killed two of them tonight, by accident. They were walking away from me on my side of the road, side by side, wearing black. It was pitch black and I knew the road so didn't have my main beam. I had to swerve so hard around them, it was SO close! In fact it was so close, I might have actually hit him Rolling Eyes I didn't hear a thud but there was so much shit in my boot tha'ts all I could hear when I swerved haha.

You need to be a bit careful calling this trash 'Pikeys'. our gutless government of yore side-stepped the reality of the crimes and behaviour that are ellegedly attributed to them by naming them a 'Ethnic Minority'. Typical spineless politicians.

ohhh, i thought they were removing them intact.

in that case, the cover sounds like a good idea.

They cut them off either side of the flanges for the cat, then sort out removing them later, or let the scrap yard do it.

The papers report it as vandalism....

https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/8164357.stm

The rumour goes that pikeys broke in and tried to nick the overhead cables and managed to electrocute themselves in the process. Human remains were found nearby. The phone lines round here regularly go down when they rip out the old cables, happened a few times this year already.

Bunch of arseholes giving the whole travelling community a bad name.

4x4 cats seem to be an easy target round here they dont need to jack them up

we get about 7 quid for an old cat at work and use a proper recycleing company

they now seem to be trying to get the pallets instead

we have also had the scrap batteries nicked before now for the lead Rolling Eyes

A couple of years ago when we had bad flooding round here some fuckers were stealing the fire service's hose connectors while they were trying to pump out peoples homes, billet stainless steel apparently has more value than someone's house Shocked

And while the railway was closed the overhead cables went walkabout in the same area... While they were still live Shocked

They need rounding up... The ones that desecrate memorials just need shooting, they're not worth the price of a bullet but it's the cheapest way of making sure they don't do it again Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

I was talking the the manager of the BMW breakers this time last year after buying a cat(my stupid car has 4, and one was blocked). He pointed out that they used to leave the one careless owner' exhaust outside in a rack (in their locked yard). But now they're locked away and are regularly targeted by thieving pikeys.

It's quite a relief to learn that some other people share some of my twisted views.
Whilst in Munich earlier this year I went on a guided tour of the city and was shown many of the terrible things that were associated with The Third Reich. One of the sights that I was shown was a memorial to the Gypsies that were murdered by Hitler's henchmen. I don't recall being too saddened by that sight.

Talking to a mate tonight he was telling me about some of his local pikeys, he is a plumber and wanted rid of an old washing machine so he flagged down the pikey in his "basket van" and while they went round the back to carry it out another pikey pulled up and started taking the scrap off the 1st van Laughing

Naturally, he left them to have thier fight...
