Looking at getting some mirrors for my bike. Not only to see behind but to see for the rozzers when Im doing over 30 (oh the perks of being 16 Laughing)

Would ideally like one of these for teh bike but apparently they bounce around and are useless but I do like the sound of being able to fold them as my sort of bike looks rediculous with mirrors.

A mate has a set of these on his speedfight and I quite like the pattern. But the mirrors in the picture seem to have no thread? wtf?!?

Are there any other mirrors that you can recommend that look fairly decent?

With the first mirror, that will clamp straight on but for the second I will need to buy a mirror adapter that will bolt onto my bars.

So what you think?

Thanks gents Thumbs Up

It will have a thread on it, just the angle means you cant see it Laughing
I always find it trial and error with mirrors.. they wobble around whatever you do, aslong as i can make out colours in mine, its all fine Very Happy

I always just go for bog standard round chrome ones Razz so not much help, you do get some with rubber bungs in various places to help dampen the vibes.. But if its your bike, pick what you like Very Happy

I like the second ones but I don't know how far they will stick out. I want them but I don't want them to look awful. Yanno?

Thats why I like the idea of folding ones...

TBH the mirrors are usually invisible to most people. They just don't see the mirrors on bikes. Think of a bike you know the looks of quite well, describe it's mirrors, you probably can't Wink Get some cheap mirrors that don't stand out too much or they'll only get broken or nicked. So long as you can see behind you it doesn't matter really.

Agree with you there. The reason I am struggling for mirrors as this sort of bike looks crap with them.

I think scooters, commuters, sports bikes etc. look stupid without them!

Hmmm...

Thats because its a right hand mirror where the shaft goes through the hole and secured with a nut at the bottom (was on mine anyway), the left one has a normal screw thread, summat along those lines anyway.

Could get standard ones, not the best looking but meh.

(only picture i've got with them on)

I have had them, they look better on naked bikes. They're good. the ones i had were cuntishly stiff lol, which is great once you have them adjusted, cz they never move! but just be careful adjusting them, because they were so stiff i thought i might snap them. Not sure i that was just my pair though.

but for the price you cant really go wrong!

So do they have bits which go into the end of your bars then?

There is a bit of a problem because I have closed-end grips...

And I do like the standard ones actually...

Save your money for the fines....
Mirrors add weight & windresistance, (that alone must be worth about 20mph on a 50!) and I've yet to find a pair yet that actually show much more than my shoulders!
I actually made an extended mirror for my DT50 as a CDT project at school when I was 16..... you want daft looking! It worked though. Or at least I could see 'something' behind me, at least until I started the engine!
Welcome to the world of propper biking. Its an occupational hazard, and something you should view as an 'aid' to growing the eyballs in your arse you need to survive on two wheels!
Pick a pair you thing would suit the bike. Black and round, I's say would suit it best, and hope to get lucky as far as what you can see in them!

The reason I didnt want to do this as it looks rediculous and I feel really guilty when I look behind me. Also, if the rozzers are behind me and I do look back, it will look like I am hiding something.

Okay, so if I am going to see my shoulders anyway, should I just go with the folding one?

The second one I listed though seems to have a fairly long stem though?

No, you'll look like a 'biker'.... which means 'guilty' whatever you look like!
Stop a random car, they hava about a one chance in ten of finding something to ticket; stop a random biker, and they have 10 chanes in one! Small plate, load zorst, speeding, defective lights, tyres, L-Plate irregularity, the list goes on!
You learn to talk nicely to them.....

I do anyway Mr. Green

Just trying to atleast not look guilty.

So are we ruling out all mirrors then?

(wouldn't mind just that fold one just incase Laughing)

No, I'm just being flippant.
Just dont put too much store in them, and dont get dependent on them. While your learning, it can actually be an advantage to not have mirrors and to HAVE to look over your shoulder, and be a bit paranoid.
Means that when you come to training & test, you should be doing quite obviouse life-savers that the examiner will be able to see and apreciate.

Ahh. See I was thinking that (lifesavers) as I think they are stupid but I will end up getting into bad habits.

What you reckon about that foldy one then? Heard they vibrate a lot though? Confused

I'm trying not to think I have a migreane.
And its not worth the pain to wate it on your connundrum. Not that you aren't worth it, but the mirrors aren't.
They are a 'random' thing. Some designs are better for certain bikes than others, from the erganomics and visibility point of view, and as a 'rough' guide, the style fitted to the bike, or similar bikes by the major makers, tend to have had a lot of effort put into that aspect, but then along comes the styling bod, and 'tweeks' it so it looks better, but dont work as well.
So some OE fit mirrors are brilliant, (as mirrors go) some utterly useless, on the bieks they were intended for. But just some-times, an OE mirror that doesn't work so great on the bike it came from, will work brilliantly on something else.
After-market mirrors are an even bigger lottery.
The more concervative ones, designed to be standard replacements for OE fit, on bigger bikes, can be OK, but on smaller bikes, they tend to be pretty poor, made down to a price.
Thats where if you are lucky you get one that fits well, clamps down well, doesn't shake, and staks where you adjust it.
If not, and more often, they dont!
'Custom' missors are anything in between. sometimes, they offer better view, and some-times they dont shake as much, sometimes they actually stay adjusted.... sometimes they dont.
a lot of its trial and error, and a good place as any to start is often a breakers. A good one will have a box of old mirrors you can bolt on and try out to find something thats more suitable, and if you dont mind what they look like, or they are tidy enough to begin with, procure them for £5 or £10..... then you take them home ans start messing, and if they dont stay adjusted, you try clamping them up, or peening the ball with a small hammer to grip better, if they vibrate, taking the glass off the front and wighting the head of the mirror inside teh case by gluing washers, solder or wheel balence weights etc inside.

Save it for tomorrow then. I don't want to make you worse.

The issue is, with trying on different mirrors, I have no actual mounts. I would have to buy clamp on mounts to my bars which are a tenner in themselves.

The second issue being style (Laughing)

Shall I just go without any for a couple of weeks, see how I get on then make my mind up?

Thanks for your help Mike! Thumbs Up

Hang on, you honestly think that looking over your shoulder on a bike is stupid?

No. But the excessive amount of looking over your shoulder required on the test is rediculous. I mean, why the hell do you have to do it on Mod 1 at all?

And for the reasons stated above, which obviously you didn't take into account.

To get you into the practice of real life.

They're called 'lifesavers' for a reason.

Mirrors are for seeing behind you and a little to the side. Shoulder check is to see whats in your blind spot.

Two different functions.
