H100s are awesome and tolerate massive amounts of abuse.

My H100 is probably my most reliable bike AND it does good wheelies.

That about the engine is bollocks. A friend of mine has clocked up 20,000 in the last 2 years, the bike has been abused to within an inch of its life, run out of oil 5 times, been run without gearbox oil, and been redlined EVERYWHERE.

That engine has NEVER missed a beat and always starts even in the snow and ice.

I have a points H100, and other than a retarded previous owner, I've never had any problems with it.

I know the owner of said bike and I can tell you it has been well and truly abused. Thumbs Up

TADA! 27cows to the rescue! One hint of H100, RXS and/or 2 stroke/stroker and he's there!

Do you search the forums for any mention of it? Do you use the search function to do it Laughing?

I don't need to search, I instinctively know Laughing

There are better bikes than the RXS...but there is nothing to match its combination of extreme cheapness and simplicity and immense reliability. If armageddon arrived and I was permitted one vehicle to survive on, it would be an RXS. Preferably my old faithful Laughing

Actually I think a thank you is in order. I would never have thought, dreamt or known of an RXS when buying my first bike. It was only after one of my first ever threads that you suggested it.

I wasn't really in the position to purchase one then. But I luckily I remembered, and I am glad I did. I fell in love with the styling and not only that the insurance quotes I got on it were far less than those for a CG, 1/2 the price!

So kudos to you 27cows, the one who enlightened my path!

From back in sunny July!

Probably not going to surprise anyone here (lol) but I'd recommend not a 125 but an RXS100. Just as fast as a restricted 125 (if not faster), immensely tough and reliable with a small level of care, cheap to fix, they take well to being bodged, you can persuade bits from all manner of other bikes to fit, and they can often be picked up for next to nothing.

Spares are cheap and plentiful (so long as you don't want cluster switch, exhaust or clocks). Ideal first bike, as the motor is extremely simple and easy to work on.

Mine cost £100 and I got it legal for the road for a further £31 outlay. I've been all over the place on it and it remains my number 1 bike.

Those are tidy exhausts! I hope the coke + tinfoil trick will work, rather than me having to pay for re-chroming!

Go for an H100S2!

Both S2 models SG and SJ have CDI which is the one you want to go for between 1988 and 1992.

Also people saying under geared? I have over geared mine with a 17t front sprocket and the standard 39 rear, big differences.

And get the HY tech racing reeds, makes bottom end power so much better.

And I have had three of these, great bikes in my opinion when looked after

You can discount one H100 vote as well, because G voted H100 to annoy 27cows!

I haven't even got a decent one of either Laughing My seat is rusty and endlessly bodged. Current seat cover had to be bonded on because of a lack of spikes remaining. Top box is 23 years old and held together with glass fibre and stickers Laughing

This upsets me, what's going to happen in 25 years when there are NO spare parts. 27cows, you might have to give up your stoker! It is sad day! In the words of a Russian friend.

I never bother with the trim. It just encourages the rim of the base to rust where the moisture collects under it. If you've got a sound base you're sorted. It's very difficult to find decent ones these days.

I was concerned about the spares situation by 1994. But the old girl has kept going somehow Laughing Most bits are easy to come by. Pattern parts like mudguards, ignition switches, lights/covers, indicators etc are still available from various sources.

The only real issue is with seat bases, exhausts and light/cluster switches. Exhausts can be bodged pretty easily (it's 15 years since I had a perfect one), so can the switch. A seat from another bike could be modded to fit.

My one real issue is with my frame where the mainstand pin passes through it. The holes are worn badly, meaning the stand and the rear brake pedal move about a lot. I need to get that sorted but I'm not sure of the best way to go about it. That aside, I'm confident mine can reach the half a million miles mark.
