So I spent the entire evening last night in A&E after my Dad tried to ride home from work yesterday - in the snow. I know I know, why was he riding home in the snow? We'll never know... he's had a right telling off from the family though!
To be fair, he's ridden every past winter, but even he said this winter has started really bad...
He was going down a very desolate country road with one car following behind him (who happened to be a biker too). He hit some black ice and went down... slid along a bit, and as he came to a stop and was fine... but then the car coming up behind couldnt stop, and hit in in his back and sent him flying.
Took about 2 hours to get an Ambulance to him and back to the hospital due to all the snow problems here.
At first we suspected a broken hip, but after all the Xrays it turns out he's ok with no breaks, just trauma to his back, and maybe nerve damage... but bloody hell he's a lucky sod!
The only thing he was concerened about was making sure he hadn't jepordised my desire to get a bike myself! I'm supposed to have my Mod2 re-test on Friday and we've got over a foot of snow here! My wife's a little anti-bike you see, but she saw passed it all and everythings working out...
Word to the wise folks... don't ride in the snow. It may be soft to land on, but the car coming up behind you probably won't be able to stop! Stay safe.

So it's the car hitting him that injured him?
I'm fine riding about in the snow but when cars are up your arse it's scary as fuck :/ had to pull over and wait for a few cars to fuck off last night
Glad he's ok and able to ride again

Always ridden in the snow in my past, ridden all year round for a few years as two wheels was my only form of transport.
Shame the car driver behind, couldn't have been a little more cautious, given a better braking distance (consider the weather conditions). Otherwise your Dad might have survived with nothing more than a bruised ego!!!
Glad to know he's okay though.

He's clearly not fine, if he hurt his back. That could go on for years, with him needing physio every so often for the rest of his life, or an operation to replace a disc.
I was reversed into about 15 years ago and my back has hurt ever since, and as I don't want a risky back operation, I have to make do with constant back pain.

The car driver should have know this, too, and adjusted his distance from the vehicle infront, especially if the vehicle was a motorbike and especially if he was a biker, too. So, I do blame the car driver.

I'm afraid that, is your choice.
If he wants to make a claim, i'm sure he will and have no trouble finding out his options but really, people shouting "ooooh, ooooooooh quick make a claim!!1!11" is part the reason this society is so trashed
I'v had 2 semi major crashes not my fault, I wasn't particularly injured and haven't claimed, does that make me an honest mug or stupid fleecer?

I'm not part of the blame/claim culture, imo it's a load of bollocks. But he's genuinely hurt, not all through his own fault but down to a car following too close for the conditions. That in my mind makes it a reason to claim.
It's a lot different to those that have a bump then "oooohhh ahhhh my neck" just to make a few extra quid.

That's your own choice, and tbf if i was to have an rta tomorrow that wasn't my fault and i only came out with a few bruises i wouldn't claim as long as my bike was repaired and made a good as before the accident.
