Now, I am having trouble with these....not piddly little ones...but the big 3/4 laners.

I know the rules...lanes...give way...etc...
but I find them tricky.

Any tips for me ??

Today, for example, I was taking the last exit on a 3 lane roundabout.....stayed right..indicating thus....then when the junction before mine had JUST gone...I indicated left to move over a lane and turn off......
NO CARS would let me off !
A man who was sitting in that lane...looked at me and sped on past.
I slowed down enough so that I JUST came in the lane after him before the central reservation.
But it was close.

I have to ride to Birmingham on Thursday for my service and I am becoming scared about doing that roundabout at a busy lunch time!!!

Any advice on what you all do to be assertive and seen would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance...

Your not having much luck on the road are you Jodie!

If you can't get into the lane because someone is blocking you then the official word would be to go round the roundabout and try again. Some f*cker did it to me whilst on my CBT.

You'll be suprised at what other road users will do, try to do, or do but be completely oblivious to it.

You'll soon learn to anticipate what other drivers are actually going to do and learn to ride around it, it's all part of the learning and your doing very well so far Thumbs Up

Remember Wise old driving china man once say;

The master questions : "What do you know when you see a car indication to the right?"

The pupils reply : "The car is turning right.... The car might turn right"

The master wisely replies: "You know the indicator is working."

ooh that's good advice

if driving an artic

unfortunately on a bike you are vulnerable and only you can be responsible for your own safety

be careful out there, most multi lane roundabouts kinda spiral outwards so that it's obvious where you can change lane - is this not the case

Personally I`d approach it from lane 2 rather than 3, then you don`t have to go through two lanes of traffic to reach your exit.

Basically, I would`ve taken the line the car took.

Can you not be cheeky and use the left or middle lane? will be easier to get off the the roundabout then, but I guess you will have to watch for cars aproaching from the right lane.

Ahh...I don't like taking the left lane all the way round a roundabout...people in the correct lane will then be indicating left and I may be sat in their way in front of their turn off

This kinda stuff happends to me everyday, predict what could happen before u go into the roundabout and dont panic if something does happen or you may freeze up and crash

You think that is bad?

How'd you like this little baby on your test?

It is called 'The Magic Roundabout' and is located in Swindon. Five mini roundabouts in a circle and a sixth, central one that you go round anticlockwise!

Shocked Shocked

Strewth! The Tarpot`s in Essex, just outside Benfleet is another odd one.

It`s not particularly difficult, but it has satellite roundabouts and you can effectively go round it the wrong way.

you should have followed the same route as the car to be honest!

Left hand lane for first 2 exits, middle for the 3rd, and centre for the others! just use a lot of lifesavers, and check the signs as you approach the roundabout, and you should be safe! if in doubt go around the roundabout again!

I've been on that 'The Magic Roundabout' in Swindon its quite something, you just take your life in your hands and go for it!

apparently the accidents seem to be limited to people that aren't local - go figure.

JodieWodie, do you drive a car? When I was learning to drive I always found a roundabout difficult but after years of driving when I came to the bike it was easy. Just practice and keeping your eye out for the idiots (ie everyone else!)

Just looking at your piccy again Jodiewodie, the guy passed you on the inside which is wrong and dangerous. It would not be inappropriate to sound your horn in those circumstances (wont make much diffeence but maybe makes you feel better.

They have a real shitty one just outside Ikea in Edinburgh, a small roundabout that the council, in their wisdom, saw fit to put three lanes on the approach but thin it down to a single lane using chevrons as you are going round. Who dares wins type stuff!

The easiest roundabout in the country is on the A830 about eight miles before Mallaig. It has two roads on it!...No, I don't know why it is there either but it makes me chuckle every time I ride over the top of it.
