400's generally get a hard life as they are a natural step after the learning period but they are no different to any other bike.

Listen to the engine from cold - Are there any nasty noises or knocks.
Check the oil and other fluids - Do they look clean and recently changed. Any leaks
Tyres - Plenty of tread
Brakes - Work with no judder
Electrical - All lights work and it starts strongly from the start button
Chain and sprockets not worn
No noise from bearings and headstock bearings smooth etc
HPI type check - Not stolen, look for frame and engine numbers

Minor damage isn't a problem , at least it's honest damage

-Service history would help get you an idea of what kinda life its had.
-Check for any lockwiring or any signs its been raced, if it had i would steer clear
-Check all the connections on the electrics, the engines are good and can last a long time with the right care but the electrics tend not to.
-Minor damage is ok, only problem is locating good condition oe panels will either cost you a fortune from honda, or it would be easier looking for the holy grail.
-tbh if it sounds good ie, no clunking, strange knocking sounds then you cant go wrong for 600, haggle him down too
Thumbs Up
