So after a bit of a scrape I jumped the gun and took all my decals off, t-cutted my fairing down and repaired the scratches with a scratch repair pen (you know the type) and ordered my new decals..... which again i jumped the gun and got the wrong ones made to order Sad grrrr. so now my fairing requires a white stripe to mimic the nsr 500cc west model , so I went on ebay and got some white vinyl sheet.... but am struggling to fit it without ridges and bubbles.... please dont call me stupid I tell myself every morning when I get home and have to ride my spare bike and every lunch time when I look at my beautiful nsr under her weatherproof cover.... then again at night before I sleep. Please if you have any advice for someone on a very tight budget... or if your in cornwal (just moved here) and fancy a coffee and a brain storm feel free to burn me and help out. Cheers guys n gals Smile

when you are fitting decals, use plenty of soapy water, spray bottle filled with it and put it on both the decal and the bodywork. start at one end of the decal and use a spatula/creditcard and make sure you soap the non stick side too, helps prevent tears from smearing it flat. then work the air bubbles out from one edge to another. once done go over it again to remove any remaining moisture, if warm then leave to dry if not use a hairdryer on a low setting to dry them out.

as above, wait till after winter if i were you, any water underneath decal that freezes will expand.

thank you for the advice for the decals, i feel a lil bit more confident now. But for my next problems how do it fit the vinyl to the fairing? it is sticky back and when it goes over ridges it crinkles near the ridge, I know it is possible but i just cant work out the tactic, its in my comprehension but I lack the sort of experience it requires

I again jumped the gun, should be finished within the week (ran out of white vinyl due to trial and error) I listened to the soapy water advice, and I truly understand why now. If you are interested I could upload pictures when I am finished?

You tube is full of good vids on fitting decals/graphics.
Wet method on a car:

Dry method with heat on a bike, combine the two for best results imo.

that's actually a good site but I did my shopping on the UK's largest market place.... Ebay... went for white vinyl and...... carbon fibre affect vinyl and I'm not joking It has turned out amazing, when she is back on her feet Ill upload some pictures... definitely unique NSR... all design with Microsoft paint (don't try it)

As for fairing price, new look for less than £50 (not including west decals) and you can get good decal packs for less than £20

Sorry guys, it doesn't work, turned out ok yesterday as a test an assumed It would work out even better today, but at the end of it, a 2d piece of vinyl will not go over a 3d shape, the ridges cause ripples that do not smooth out.

paint shop it is Sad

Never give up. Find some plastic boxes or similar and get practising. That is the only way you will get anywhere with it.

Good luck and keep trying Thumbs Up
