...do you slip it into neutral or hold it on the clutch?

My NSR doesn't like going into neutral while the engine is running after a long or hard ride, so I always hold it in first on the clutch. I find this is easier anyway as I always adopt left foot down/rear brake on when I stop.

I was wondering what others might do.

I do the same - the SV doesn't like going into first and I always end up rolling her back and forward whilst revving the engine and stamping on the gear shift if I put her in neutral when she's warm, which doesn't do much for the old street cred! Cool

Depends how long I think I will be sitting there for. If I know it is a complicated lights system and I am liable to be there for a while I will go into neutral if only to rest my clutch hand.

Otherwise I just hold it in 1st gear clutch in.

My bike now refuses to go into neutral at all with the engine running so i keep it in first, usually with left foot down and foot on rear brake.

I hold my bike on the clutch until most of the traffic around me is stationary, just in case I need to move out of the way fast. Most of the time I'm not stopped long enough to warrant using neutral as lights/junctions tend to change fairly quickly.

I do change into neutral if I know I'm there for a while, after I'm satisfied I'm not about to be squashed. I also rest the engine sometimes if it's hot and I've got a wait on.

I keep it in clutch every time.

I used to have trouble pulling away, so now I keep it in clutch..and when the other set of lights start going red I find the bite ready.

Works for me....but then all bikes and everyone is different.

depends on the junction

I have some HD clutch springs in mine so the clutch can be tiring to hold for like 2 or 3 minutes.

Nearly always first gear with clutch in.

I usually muscle myself to the front of the queue so I want to be first away as soon as the lights change. By the time the bike accepts neutral the lights are changing anyway Laughing

And yea, my NSR used to hate finding neutral too...

When i had my bike (im currently looking for another) i usually held the clutch in as long as it wasnt at a complicated set of lights, if it was id just slip it into neutral.

I'm normally the same a Kris, get to the front of the lights and keep it in gear.

The only time I don't is if I've just missed the light phase and will be waiting ages.

If it is only going to be a quick stop, then I hold it on the clutch. If it looks like being a while then slip it into neutral. The trick with bikes that don't like going into neutral is to snick it in just before you come to a halt. I learned to do this very well when I had to ride my GPZ500s for two weeks with no clutch (thanks to Parcel Farces fine package delivery service taking two weeks to get it to me)

Depends on how long I'll be there. When the engine is running I have to blip the throttle as I change to neutral for it to work. It's a common fault in all GSXR400s apparently. If you're having trouble it's maybe worth a try on your bike too.

holding clutch in whilst stationary on a cbr400 causes me pain, so pretty much always knock it into neutral and sit up with hands on the tank or knees rather than the bars, stops me dying in pain, covering back brake if there is a need

I put it into neutral whenever possible.
Helps to preserve clutch & cable life.
Besides, if I'm at TLs with the clutch pulled in I keep thinking "what would happen if the cable snapped".
Catapulted into crossways traffic?!

What does the Highway Code say?

If you can't find neutral very easily, your might be able to adjust the clutch enough to make selection easier.

I find it easier to select neutral before I stop moving.
Finding it whilst stopped can be a pain.
And just as you sweatily find neutral the lights have changed to green and the cars behind are hooting at you to get a move on!!!

I hold it on the clutch unless I know it is going to be a long wait, which isn't very often.
