A copper on another bike forum pulled a car driver this morning. This was the view through his/her front screen.

Unbelievable.

Quote:
found this person driving down a dual carriageway in the early hours of the morning in the outside lane, although not all of the time because he was drifting left and right, he was not surprisingly struggling to see where the lanes started and finished.

FFS. I suspect a lot more could be seen through the bloody thing in reality. The camera does sometimes lie. Unless you think the driver managed to get to that point by sheer luck. More chance of winning the lottery. Twice. On consecutive weeks. Rolling Eyes

Picked up a car quite a few years back that had had a pretty major coming together with a lamp post in Bristol.
He'd left work with iced up screen, head out the window to see where he was going, got 500 yds to roundabout and on exiting roundabout mounted the pavemen and destroyed his car and the lamp post Rolling Eyes

For the sake of 5 mins waiting for heater to work and melting it all

I saw a noodle this morning with a windscreen like this, with wipers going at full-pelt
https://www.carpages.co.uk/news/news-images/windscreen_28_10_05.jpg

We bought a windscreen cover for the car that's on the drive overnight and the windscreen is always clear of ice in the morning. Only cost £10 and it's already paid for itself in the de-icer I don't have to use.

I find an old loyalty card or similar is excellent in lieu of a genuine ice scraper!

To be fair, the flare from those orange lights is quite bad, and so I suspect he could see a little more than is shown in the photo. For all I know the camera could be out of focus too!

{edit} Also, freezing fog tends to have that effect (as mentioned in other threads). Maybe he did scrape his screen but his heater is not particularly good at keeping the screen warm? dunno, as Hetzer says its all a little too preposterous IMO.

I've had this happen where i've used de-icer, or water to clear a screen, then it's refrozen making it very difficult to see. Obviously you stop when you can, but i have had moments where i've hardly been able to see, but then i've only ever owned cars that were 1 stop away from the scrap yard.

I saw a car which had left the road and hit a post pretty hard on my way to work yesterday morning, It was on a totally straight bit of road and it had just sort of veered off so I guess they couldn't see or fell asleep or something.
Freezing fog on the visor is pretty bad but at least you have the option to open the visor up.

An old bath towel works as a good alternative to the silver screen shield thing.

The inside of my old Fiesta used to freeze up which left me completely baffled one morning when I couldn't understand why the ice wasn't clearing from the outside of the screen. Anyway a friend of mine gave me a lift home the other night with his screen like that. Needless to say I shat myself all the way home.

My van does that if I hang a damp jacket over the seat when I drive home the day before.

Mine is terrible for ice on the inside.

I theorise it's because of the amount of snow I'm leaving in the footwells etc.

Been trying to dry it out by blazing the aircon with the windows down but it's not working too well so far Rolling Eyes

Any wise ideas?

My Pontiac ices up on the inside of the windscreen, it's a pain in the ass which is another reason I stopped driving it over winter. It doesn't leak or have any damp problems so I can only assume it's down to ventilation issues, no idea how you fix it though, ice scrapers don't work well on the inside due to the curvature and dash obviously gets in the way.

The ice on that windscreen looks like it was refrozen after clearing, either he poured water on the windscreen or did something. Either way he was in the outside lane of a dual carriageway weaving around because he couldn't see and presumably made little effort to stop, don't see why he should get any let up for that. You clear your windscreen before you drive off. I've seen a lot of idiots when heading for work at 4 or 5 am recently with only a tiny porthole to look out of and totally opaque front side windows so no mirrors, they're just retards.

Old duvet cover over my windscreen keeps it clear, I trap the corners in the doors. As I am a midget trying to reach up to the van screen to scrape is not possible and it has been so cold the spray just freezes up again (happened four times on Monday morning).
To stop the inside freezing do not touch it ( this can cause ice to form from moisture in your cloth etc) and man up by driving with the windows open.

If I hadn't driven myself with a totally iced-over windscreen in the past I might agree with you, but I have and I could see well enough to get from A to B at a sensible speed. Looked a bit like the one in the pic.

When you've been on the planet longer than 16 years you might have half a clue what you're talking about. Possibly. Oh, what's that? You're older than 16? Damn...you so outa luck! Laughing
