What was going on tonight between the chiswick roundabout and the a4 towards hammersmith? Traffic was backed up all over the place up the westway and everywhere else nearby.
Ambulances seemed to be rushing in from everywhere oddly enough.

Yeah the A4 was shut and they were directing people onto the M4 at Junction 2 from what they said on the radio. Last time that happened when I was in London it took me two hours to get onto the M4.

Dont know what exactly happened but saw various ambulances coming in from all directions, unusual to see the place as choked up as that especially as far up as the westway.

Go through Chiswick High street and into Hammersmith via Kings Street and re-join it at the Hammesmith Flyover? or are you already home?

I was coming back out from Islington towards Slough. Just came down the westway cut across shepherd's bush through turnham green on to chiswick high road then out on to the m4 from there. I was just surprised how widespread the carnage was, everywhere was completely choked up. Would be interesting to know what exactly happened.

Traffic is usually quite crap in those areas anyway, but I assume it was due to this:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-11943973

Nasty FATAC, road closed for hours for Traffic to look into it I imagine.

How sad am I? I`ve been thinking about this thread Shocked .... I really do need to get a life!

Mr Beaner! if you are on a bike and that route gets clogged up again could you not go from Shepherds Bush using the Uxbridge Road all the way out to Uxbridge... come out of Uxbridge to the roundabout that goes onto the A40/M40 and take the first exit on the roundabout and that will take you to Slough?

Having said that, why would you want go to Slough Sick Laughing

You have no idea how depressing I find this - I know every inch of the roads you are talking about, so that makes me an even sadder individual than you, especially as I haven't even lived in the UK for the last 15 years

I know Chiswick VERY well, I lived just off the Sutton Court Road for 10 years!

I lived most of my life in West London, for example Chiswick, Stamford Brook, Southall, Feltham, Hayes , Brentford.

Although I dont live there anymore and nor would I want to, I still have a soft spot for them Smile

Me too, Acton and Hayes (Yeading) from 1980 until 96, and worked in White City, most of the time commuting by bike. Pretty crap really, but I miss it sometimes.

Don't remember the Brook House, but visited the Tally Ho a few times. Regular haunt was the Red Lion and Pineapple.

Mr. J: When I first moved to Acton I thought it was the poor man's Ealing, once I was settled in I realized it was the even poorer man's Shepherds Bush.

Well the Tally Ho is no more as pikies and gypos settled in the car park and after a disagreement with the landlord it was smashed to bits so badly that is was never re-opened, allegedly of course!

Acton ahh what a lovely place?? NOT!

I did that a year or so back, around the Chiswick & Brentford areas and it left me a bit sad to see how some of the local scummers now treat what I once considered my home towns Sad .

With Chelsea, QPR, Fulham, & Brentford all on your doorstep, there was always a match to go to on a Saturday Smile .
Even if I could get a ticket now,I doubt if I could afford it.

London is just so expensive these days!

Nope, Red Lion & P was it, is the bike shop still opposite? D&H motorcycles it was called back in my day, bought many bikes from them. Red Lion was an Aussie & Kiwi pub back in the early 80s, I often found myself having to uphold national honour by drinking for England. Walked back up the road after one of those nights to find my Bonneville had vanished, sobered me me up double quick that did.

The Uxbridge road from shepherd's bush would take all day! I just cut through the bush on to chiswick and that was easy enough rejoining the m4 from there.
Compared to the neighbouring parts of west London slough isn't actually that bad to be honest.
I agree the town centre itself is a shithole and the 'ethnic' population is a little too prominent but the surrounding areas are ok. You've actually got space to breathe.
Having lived in Isleworth for seven years its a huge improvement to be honest and there's none of the daily hassle involved with living in London though if you want that you can get there easily enough, being pretty well located half way between Reading and London right on the m4.
I think the main attraction and selling point though is that it isn't in London.

Precisely why I like Boston Manor/Hanwell. Right on the M4, a nice quick escape is possible.

It's quite slaggy down there though dude :S

That's the problem with Ealing, some lovely streets with nice houses and decent people - all of which are surrounding by council estates and slaggy bail hostels. And you would not BELIEVE the number of dangerous 'care in the community' mental health types strolling about.

It's one of the worst places in the UK for street robberies, although I wouldn't expect rufty-tufty BCF sorts to fall for that sort of perlava Wink

I lived in Ealing for a couple of years and all that happened was someone blew up Carphone Warehouse.

Bastards woke me up. </rufty-tufty>
