How the deck do you get rid of them fast...? I've tried all kinds of stuff to stop them coming up including TCP but lo and behold they came up anyway... Ideas?

Get rid of fast and Herpes virus do not bode well in the same sentence.

Aciclovir (sp?) 3-5 times a day is about the best you can hope for I believe.

thats the stuff im using at the moment... was slightly dismayed that not even the might of TCP can stop these buggers from coming up.

Aciclovir can stop them, but i find it normal speeds up them showing.

biggest problem i have is when they dry out and start to scab, then it takes forever to heal

TCP is rubbish. It is simply a weak antiseptic. It will only show some sort of effect if (rare) the cold sore has become infected with a bacterium. Cold sores are caused by a VIRUS - and once you have the virus you have it for life. Aciclovir is an antiviral and can rapidly reduce the chances of the virus causing a cold sore IF YOU TREAT any "lip tingle" QUICKLY. If the cold sore has already broken out then Aciclovir can help a bit to dry it up and stop it spreading - but it is not a cure.

Nah! Don't be daft, they just pop up and can't be stopped, that stuff that says it treats a tingle hmmm, well mine tingle for half hour ish then erupt into huge disgusting crusty.

I bit into a red hot pasty, burnt my lip and ended up with one last yr ffs.

Fortunately only get one a year if that thankfully Neutral

Childish, I know!, but if you`ve got them on your lips, why not just cut your lips off Laughing Shocked !


On a serious note, I get them once in a while (had one last year Sad ) and I found that once it had scabbed up, dabbing Vaseline on it helpped the healing process to be that little bit quicker Thumbs Up

Well i'm not being daft as you aren't born with herpes, you have to catch it off someone while they're contagious (ie got ulcers).

You can't catch cold sores from cups, flannels or towels.

Common triggers
•Illnesses, such as colds and flu
•Menstrual periods
•Emotional upset
•Fatigue
•Bright sunlight
•Cold winds
Infection usually occurs in childhood when someone's kissed by a family member who has a cold sore. The virus passes through the skin, travels up a nerve and hides in the nerve root until it's activated.

When the virus is activated, it travels back to the skin, causing a tingling sensation. When the sore appears, it's itchy, painful and embarrassing because it's so noticeable.

After the first attack, some people never have another one; others get them occasionally, while some get them quite often.

Many things trigger attacks: colds and flu, menstrual periods, emotional upset, fatigue, bright sunlight and cold winds.

Ah the usual BCF madness, guaranteed to send me laughing to my grave.

If you don't have them stay away from snotty nosed sprogs as well as that's how I became 'infected'. Mine rarely occur and only when I'm run down/stressed. I use Superdrug's lip and cold sore cream at the first sign of a tingle which stops them. It's cheaper than the brand named ones so I also use it as a lip cream/preventer throughout the year.

I started getting mine after I got ambushed at a wedding by the groom (back in the day when Paedo's paraded around under the guise of 'Uncle')...I ducked as best I could, but he caught me on the nose. Since then I've had the cold sore virus attack me when I'm badly stressed out / run down.

I rarely get them on my lips and they don't 'tingle' when they're coming on the nose. I treat them with Aciclovir cream. But I also use witch hazel / tea tree oil mix or Oxy spot cream which helps dry them out. Thumbs Up
