Hi,just a bit of advice please guys

Had my honda about a month now, serviced it and starting wasnt an issue, but over the past week or so it became more and more difficult to start.Gradually the battery gave in so had to replace as it wasnt holding charge.

It has been starting intermittently?

i'm pretty new to bikes so not sure of the methodic way of checking the starting system but have started with the plugs and there is no spark....so where to now...dont mean to sound a bit Thick Embarassed but any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers
steve

Did you give the new battery a good charge ?
Maybe spray around coils & supressor caps with wd40 , might just be damp ?

When you were checking for a spark, did you make sure the spark plug had an earth? (touch the engine or something?)

hate to say this but it can catch everyone out at somepoint.....

Kill switch??? Does it have one? Could it be on or faulty?

Try getting hold of a wiring diagram for the bike, then check any connectors that may lead to ignition. Possible likely areas could be connector blocks under the tank, or even in the headlight. Could well just be an intermittant connector, which would fit as you said it sometimes worked before it stopped completely.

I lost all ignition when trying to impress some girls at a shop corner (should've known, it was only a 125 Laughing ) But turned out to be a loose connector block under the tank. Still had to walk it home though Sad

Have fun, electrics are a pain in the ass Rolling Eyes

Hi thanks for the replies guys,Yes mate have made sure the plug was earthed.

Well tried again today but the new battery just died within 15-20 tries,so now gonna connect a car battery to it for more juice(disconnected from car).

I haven't found any loose wires???

Like i said thanks for your help lads

Any more ideas welcomed lol Thumbs Up

Cheers

Maybe try the old plugs, years ago i bought a plug from a garage, it was duff, replaced it from same place and it too was duff, turned out the whole batch was duff, take the plug lead off and test it make sure its not cracked inside, seems strange when you change plugs it plays up.

Hi mark65,i broke the bloody golden rule and chucked the old plugs away(new on order)

Been out today connected the car battery up took plugs out wiped them clean checked distances put them back in,low and behold a spark but its weak and the bike will not fire,as if the fuel is putting the spark out

Any ideas???
Cheers steve

Have you checked many connectors? In the headlight etc?
Thats all i can think of really, unless its something more serious like knackered pulser coil but its probably best to stay focused on the simple stuff for now Wink

Connectors may not necessarilly be loose but could be corroded inside, so attack them all with some WD-40 Twisted Evil

Hope you get it sorted Thumbs Up

Alright lads, got round to havin another look today!

Cleaned all terminals up checked n double checked loom no joys!

So decided to go round local garage and sponge some knowledge, while i was chattin to the mechanic an old guy was millin around and over heard me... and all he said was ..."Heat the plugs up" n then he walked off.....

Got home heated the electrode of both plugs over the the cooker then popped em back in and first touch of the button....she started and ran sweet as a nut????? what was that all about?

Cheers

i still do that as well, even though plugs are cheap enough (not the iridium ones though, had a few problems with them, so i stick to copper or iron tipped plugs & the occasional gold palladium one)
sounds like you have wrong heat range of plug or battery weak/not holding a charge?
get a multi-meter onto it, it takes a fair bit of juice to get the bike started.
cheers,
GAZ
