I had convictions for car theft, driving without insurance (numerous times), no documents etc.... although I never got stopped while I was banned
Anyway I just waited for all the points to come off my license before sitting my test (had to wait 8 years too).
It shouldn't really make any difference what kind of press the insurance company has, unless you are planning on doing an insurance job on the bike, I would say go with the quote you've got and if you get stopped then you are legit.... although in my experience as soon as you get insurance you won't ever get stopped.
I've been in England for 9 years now, and the closest I ever got to being pulled was about 2am I was doing about 35 in a 20 zone and the police stopped me and said to keep my speed down there could be kids running around. |

Remember that an internet quote often isn't guaranteed, I have a conviction for driving while over legal limit of alcohol. Though that's only on for another year.
For my first big bike, CBR600 after I passed my test I was quoted 390 over the internet, then when I called up, they went over the details again and it came out at 440.
Car insurance is even more ridiculous, straight back from my ban, I was paying £1100 for a 1.0 Micra, at 19, passed my car at 17. Then was down to £400 Fully Comp with 3 years no claims.
It's annoying to be honest, drivers make a mistake in the past, get convicted, and are prosecuted, I paid my fine, and did my ban. Yet I still get punished for a further 5 years after the offence by insurance companies.
If somebody goes out and seriously hurts somebody in a theft or an assault, when they've done there 12 month jail term plus some gardening for the council, then they're helped back into a job and given a lot of help to get back, drivers are punished for 5 years after. |

Simple solution, unfortunately for an 18 year old with a 3 month old license I wish it was that simple at the time lol.
However, I got a 1 year driving ban, but effectively a punishment of 6 years, including 5 years of being bent over by insurance companies.
What offence would somebody have to commit to get 6 years worth of custodial? or a similar length offense that actually harms another person? |

Try and get a decent job at any corporate with a recent criminal record without a bloody good excuse. That's your punishment.
Can't say I have huge sympathy for uninsured/banned drivers. You hit someone and can't pay you've just fucked up somones world for a long time. What if you'd hit someone who's a plumber, salesman, county nurse? etc That's the job gone.
We all make mistakes, you've just got to pony up for it. ____________________ Test passed, CBR125-RW8 sold. 2010 ER-6N Bought! Rummmm |

I truly understand that, I have no other criminal record, or any other offences at all. I understand that insurance companies have to play a statistics game, still doesn't stop it annoying me.
Statistics mean nothing to the individual. I have never been involved in an accident, but was convicted of 1 driving offence, and I pay more on a car policy than a friend of mine who has made 9 claims in 3 years, all his fault accidents.
I think I'm going for the wrong companies. What I don't understand though is when you see traffic cop programmes, when they catch somebody driving whilst disqualified, and the punishment is a longer ban. Seriously, what's the point, they obviously don't care for the ban so why ban them for longer.
My major gripe is the unfair justice system. I was ordered to pay £150 fine, and £150 Police Compensation for their time in preparing the case. I was 40mg on the breath test, 1mg less I'd have got a caution, they prosecute at 40 and the legal limit is 35. I see people in the prosecutions section of the newspaper get smaller fines for theft and GBH!!! I see people on Police programmes fined £60 for being 3 times over what I was. How is that any way fair?
Before asked, if anybody doesn't believe the breath test results and the fine issued, I'll be happy to scan the papers and post them up. |

Fines set in court are set by income, so no point griping about how much you were fined. 40mg is 5 over the limit, police do not offer cautions to those on 39mg, don't know where you heard that.
\insurance companies will obviously penalise you for the DD more than for a claim, DD drivers have a habit of causing damage to multiple vehicles and statistically likely to reoffend. ____________________ Fallen Angel "Nae sniffing my seat now!!!!! "

35 - 39 Mg is no further action
40 - 50 Mg Statutory option of giving bloodurine and bail or straight charge for excess alcohol
50 + Mg is a straight charge for excess alcohol
Everybody makes mistakes and as you have found out the financial penalty for serious driving offences is fairly high and continues for a few years with insurance etc. I can understand why insurance companies have to load the premium and if you are of the repeat offender ilk then why should you pay as little as a law abiding motorist.
What people forget is that driving/riding is a entitlement that must be earned and not a right. If you fuck up then your licence should be taken away. A car/bike is a missile waiting to cause death/pain in the wrong circumstance.
The fines/punishments handed out for other offences at court are a joke and probably worthy of their own thread ____________________ Current ride - Yamaha MT-07 |

'driving while over the legal limit of alcohol' = Drunk Driving, no matter how you try to dress it up.
As for your whining about the high cost of insurance...... who gives a fuck, I doubt that you'll find much sympathy on here or on any other bike or car forum. |

If you actually read, I was using the analogy to demonstrate how driving offences are treated far more seriously than violent crimes, I wasn't after any sympathy what so ever.
DR10 is the endorsement code FYI, Driving with alcohol above the legal limit,
Quite different to DR20 which is Driving while unfit through alcohol.
Whatever attitude you take, nobody was harmed, just like the people caught doing 100mph on a bike, so you can't whinge about Police coming down hard on them either. They abused it so should have their license removed also. Or do offences change depending on your personal opinions?
To make it obvious to you, I am not condoning Drink Driving, it is wrong, and have never done it since, but saying that anybody that drinks slightly too much is totally unsafe is as daft as saying that doing 5mph over the speed limit is just as dangerous as doing 3times the speed limit. |
