Hi, for some reason whenever my DNA seems to be freewheeling down a hill, (with the engine ticking over, throttle closed), the bike is always sluggish to respond when i try to pull away at the bottom. I open the throttle but the engine doesn't fire for 2 or 3 seconds with the throttle open fully, and then slowly the revs pick up and it goes.

I don't know if this is a common problem or maybe just a thing with scooters.

Also, does anyone know where to get a proper manual for a Gilera DNA 50 as the manufacturers one is pretty useless.

It depends on the gradient of the hill. If you throttle off, you're in effect engine braking... Ever tried to steer a car when coasting and it's pretty much the same.

Yeh, i done this down Hampstead Heath cos there's a big F**k off hill there and when i got back on the throttle, the bike lurched forward and picks up its revs after a delay of about a second. Best bet is try not to freewheel down a hill. I always go down hills 3/4 throttle and fingers on levers... a daily practise as my college is perched atop Harrow On The Hill.

I have been doing that, i thought it might be a general fault in the design of the bike, as i hear it is quite a common problem but mine might not be the same.

The bike is exactly a year old but does not start easily, i need to open the throttle to at least half way to get it to fire, i also need to adjust the idle speed as it does stop sometimes when i am putting helmet etc on.

Any help would be appreciated

Is the bike deristricted or had its pipe changed?.. Maybe you should look at the state of your spark plugs if it's misfiring or maybe your battery. Check that the fuel mixture is just right, not to lean or not too rich, can tell by the colour of the plug... Ste should be able to guide you on this and he'll be helpful.

I am going to replace the spark plug tomorrow as the bike has done nearly 7000 miles and i don't think it has ever been replaced.

I would rather not like to fiddle with the carb unless i know which way to turn it and by how much.

The bike is derestricted but does not have and more modifications (70's kit, tuned pipe etc).

I cleaned the spark plug a week ago with a wire brush and it had a black sooty powder on it, I don't know if this helps.

There is no problems with the battery I think it is the spark plug.

Can someone tell me where to get a new spark plug from, the manual says Champion N1C

thanks
