Hi,

Is there anyone on here that has one or driven one etc?

I'm thinking of getting one as my next car, possibly with a 2.0Ltr VTEC or the 2.2i-CDTi.

Not entirely decided yet on the car, but I know I want an estate though.

Thoughts?

Craig

Good for towing a caravan, it would seem.

You must be at least 50 to own an Accord. I am waiting patiently.

Can't comment on the car itself but i have a civic with the 2.2 cdti engine.

All i can say is, brilliant Very Happy It's so smooth and quiet compared to other diesels i have driven. Still can't nippy when you want it to be but returns a decent mpg (i've been averaging 45-50 in the cold weather, sits around 55mph when it's warm).

You can also see quite big gains from a remap Wink

The build quality on the civic is inferior to that of the old shape. Honda reliability is still there but just watch out for the clutch in the 2.2, it's known for slipping after a while (replaced under warranty, if not go for a kevlar clutch). If it does happen to slip (stick it in 4th and boot it) then they replace it with a updated clutch which eliminates this problem. It seems to be an isolated problem, some people have it slip after 20k on the standard map, others are running 40-50k on a remap with no slippage so it seems to be down to driving style obviously, but maybe particular batches of clutches aswell.

Laughing

That rules out my other choice then, a Volvo V70 Petrol/D5...

Depends what you want one for really doesn't it? No point saying they're brilliant on fuel and comfortable if you want an estate for load capacity and they have none. Which is the main problem i've heard, a colleague had one briefly and sold it soon after because it was too small for all his surfing stuff. If you want size, get a Volvo.

Well I want something that looks good, handles well and has some panache. Space is a must, need something that can swallow 2 dogs regularly and some DIY materials.

I don't want a BMW, Merc or Audi. So its either the Honda or a Volvo.
Part of me is saying estate = Volvo, but I've always loved the Accord and now that I can afford one my head is saying get one!!

Plus wouldn't the Honda be more reliable/better made?

I have been seriously looking at Volvo V70's lately (with fold up seats in the boot), seems to be a lot of car for not much money.
I have read quite a few reports of niggling problems though.

Honda build quality hasn't been as good since they started building them in Swindon, though i'm not sure if those Accords come from the Swindon plant or not.

Mondeo estate? Bought one a while back, good cars.

May not tick your panache box, but having a premium car is not the way to a bigger penis grasshopper. Wink

Such as? The older V70 is a better buy than the facelift one, the only advantage of the newer one is looks, but the old model is cheaper and just as capable. They are expensive for parts, that is the main problem and there are a couple of parts that go which cost a few hundred quid to fix, MAF and TPS specifically, bushes on suspension and engine mounts also have a habit of giving up, it's just things you need to look for history on before you buy.

I found the V70 suffered from quite significant torque steer, whether that affects models other than the T5 I don't know, front wheel grip was also poor in anything but totaly dry conditions and it would get stuck in snow quite easily (more than my rwd BMWs...)

I don't yet have a car license so haven't owned one or driven one, however my uncle had one a couple of years back.

If you want it for looks, I don't think it's right for you. Not a particularly good looking car in my opinion. It does have a decent amount of boot space with it being an estate, but I don't think it has a lot for its class.

I did, however, love the interior. I thought the seats were very comfortable and the rest of the interior itself was very nice. It had an expensive car feel inside (but I suppose they aren't cheap). It was very quiet inside and a nice ride but I cannot remember the mpg.

By the way, my uncle is 65 Laughing

The new SEAT Leon? Razz (Okay, so I picked my new one up today 2005 new model)

2.0 TDI is very very nippy and also hear it gets good gains from a remap.

A fair amount of space, with a decent sized boot as well.

A little bit too much road noise but that's not too much of a problem for me as I always have the radio on.

Lots of pull and 4th gear overtakes are nice!

Very comfortable seats, plenty of technology, but not too spaceshippy like the Civic. I have the sport version and can be a little hard on rougher surfaces but nothing too bad, like I said it's got comfortable seats so counteracts it Razz

EDIT: Photo

Very Happy

That I don't need! Razz Plus if I wanted penis enhancing I'd go for a BMW or such like. But I don't like rear wheel drive cars especially with all this snow we now seem to be getting.

And I don't like Audi's as only cocks drive them!

Plus I don't like VAGs, and that includes SEAT's and Skoda's! As they're overhiped crap thats fairly badly/cheaply put together to make it look premium. I know this from experience.

I do however like Fords, Vauxhalls, Peugeots and Honda's. My current Astra has been a blinding car!

Although, looking at the Mondeo in my price range I am not a big fan for some reason. The front looks fine but the rear end looks crap.
