My hall at uni is doing a trip to Amsterdam in February, and I want to go. I'm just looking at how much it's going to cost me.
The package is £120 for 3 days B&B, Coach and some club entry.
I don't plan on going to the dam for my first time and not getting absolutely fucked up on everything I can get my hands on, so I need to know a little bit about prices.
Coffee shops: How much do you typically spend?
Other "less legal" drugs? Prices, availability etc?
I was gonna go snowboarding for xmas but I can't, so I might as well do this instead
Any help is much appreciated

Been to the dam more times than I care to remember and the coffee shop prices tend to vary. If you go to the more commercial places like the Bulldog or Grasshopper you'll be charged extortionate prices. If you find yourself passing a coffee shop that looks like a shit hole then the chances are its a diamond for prices. I always found Hill St Blues was a fantastic place with reasonable prices. Named for its location beside a police station (Only in the dam lol) and it has writing all over the walls. Cant miss the place if your in the area.

You pay by the gram and as you would expect the price of a gram reflects the quality so your best bet is to find something in the middle. It will be better than the shit we get over here for a decent price.

Clubbing I cant help you on. Only done it twice and that was in the days of Gilders and I was way too gone to remember how much it cost. Old Pink might be able to help out there. He lived there for a while. The club I went to had closed the last time I was over there (Club Red)

Best bit of advice I can give for a novice to amsterdam is not to walk around doe eyed and its hard not to. Its an experience and a half and love it or hate it you'll never forget it. Go visit the places they tell you about, The Red Light District is a real eye opener. All them stories you never believed all get proven true when you get there.

And most important of all. Dont buy stuff from the street sellers and there is lots of them in Amsterdam. Its easy to get anything you want from these guys and just as easy to get mugged. Some of them will sell you talc as coke and as a thank you they'll have your wallet too.

Weed wise I can hold my own and I know my limits very well so I think I'll be fine, and about looking doe eyed, I guess the best thing to do is keep walking and try and get familiar with areas during daytime?
If one were to try and score some illegal stuff, how would one go about doing so without getting mugged or ripped off? PM is fine

You sound like the perfect victim in your rush to get drugged up.
The place has far more to offer than that.
I can't think of a more stupid thing to do than spend the short time you have there in a drug fuelled haze.
Just check the place out, enjoy the relaxed friendly atmosphere - dabble with extreme caution.

Mushrooms as mushrooms have been made illegal, but they utilise a loophole which means they can sell you mushrooms in their sclerotia form (they will probably be labelled as "Truffles"), commonly known as "Philosophers Stones". Ask the dude selling them about dosage I guess, though 15g was enough to have me feeling great, I think 20-25 would have been the sweet spot (this wasn't in the Dam btw, I ordered them and had them shipped to UK).

Mind you, not sure if knocking back shrooms in an unfamiliar environment where you have no idea of the culture or surroundings would be the best idea.

Had a friend try to score coke from one of the street dealers, he had a "tester" sniff off a key, it was good shit, handed over the cash, got back to the hotel, it was talc (the old switcheroo strikes again!) so yeah, even if you did manage to score without getting headbutted/raped/etc then you will probably be sold duff shit anyway.

Then there's always Salvia if you want the universe to collapse and have your soul annihaliated for shits an gigs.

I have been many times and don't get involved with the drugs, my friends have and to be honest you can get ripped off on the streets, but in my experience you can usually get what you want.

My friends have been ripped off once havegot the goods over 20 other seperate occasions.

Some tipps:

Walk around and familarize yourself with the area in day light

When you spot dealers offering you stuff, don't buy it straight away- take a note of their faces.

When you see them again- hang about in the area- as they aproach other people to do a deal, see if they have the stuff themselves or if they have to see a dealer themselves.

If they have to see a dealer, then this is the man you want to see your self directly, they are just making money being a middle man.

Quite often these dealers will have loads of "runners" swarming around them. These runners try and make something themselves by aproaching people and getting the sell.

If you see one of these guys and you recognize them from being around for a few hours and they have had plenty of people buying from them, you should be OK. If they are ripping people off they are not going to hang around in the same area waiting for retaliation.

On the street, you will generally be offered, coke, speed and E's.
The coke will quite often turn out to be crack rather than powered coke.
This happened to a friend and he tried crushing it and snorting it but it didn't do much, he then tried it on a pipe over ash (on the advise of the dealer after he went back to complain) and it worked fine.
Don't buy to much in one go, buy a bit, then a bit more, get to know the dealer. Get a mobile number if you can. He will then not want to let you down as he is expecting repeat business. Tell him you are there for a couple of weeks and will come and see him often if his stuff is always good.
My mate did this and after he got back he said the dealer was calling him every day, he didn't answer and the dealer probably realised he was out of the country eventually by the ring tone and soon gave up calling.

If you insist on getting anything this is the best advice I can give, but my best advice would be to leave the harder stuff alone. Have a smoke by all means, its part of the experience. But spend your time having a look around enjoying the place rather than just getting hammered.

Coach... fuck that.
I travelled there by coach once, took 12+ hours each way, i got travel sick after about an hour.

I'm going back at the end of jan i thinks. Travel is usually £40-£60 return, accomodation is expensive if you stay right in the city, food and weed are fairly cheap. I usually end up eating from the 24 hours bakerys The only really think to avoid doing is buying weed from every place you go to. My first few trips i did exactly that and by the end of the first day i had enough to last me a week!

Best thing to do on day 2 is get a train to Haarlem. Its 10 mins or so away from Amsterdam and a much better city. Not as many tourists, cheaper coffee shops and no dealers on the street corners. I loved Haarlem and you'd have found me there most weekends during the summer of 95 and 96

I know that 12+ hours on a coach will suck, but at least there will be about 40 people that I know on that coach so should be all laughs
I'll definitely go clubbing at night, and smoke up during the day, but I'm not one for sightseeing so apart from the easy to spot stuff I'm not gonna see much. I might come across as a drug noob who just wants to go to Amsterdam and get fucked on everything I can find, which isn't the case. Out of all the stuff I'd want in Amsterdam shrooms is the only thing I haven't tried, but I hear the quality of pills etc is really high which is why I wouldn't mind getting some
If I do shrooms I'll keep the dose very mild, I don't want to overdo it...

Buying proper drugs off street dealers is something i and everyone i know have only even been ripped off doing. I went to Dance Valley a few years back and got sold absolute shit everywhere i went. Eventually i just asked a gurning sweating dutchman and he sold me some giant neon yellow heart shaped pills with a big X on the front and speckly white bits. I ate 2 all day and was a fucking mess

With regards to the shrooms, don't bother with the Thai ones, i drank a pint of them (thought of it still makes me feel sick) with only a moderate effect, so they're really not strong. Like i said the Hawaiians (copelandia cyanescens) were out of this world. They didn't make you think anything was real, or mess with your head, they just gave MAD visuals. If you want to do it properly give it a few days since you've last done them, don't eat or drink beer that day then do them. If it gets a much much you can eat and drink to bring yourself back to earth, but i really don't recommend that
