And drawing the line as to the difference is really just down to common sense which some people seem to be lacking.

Oh I love it when someone pipes up with the old 'common sense' arguement....hmmm one of my true faves...
Ste did you know that in the not so distant past it used to be 'common sense' to put butter on a burn??? Oh yes its true and it has been proven to be COMPLETELY bad sense!

There is good sense and non sense...no such thing as common sense!!! Karma

Biking for me is about freedom, and that includes the freedom to tell people to fuck off. I'll wear what I want, ride what I want, and ride how I want. Feel free to do the same.

cool, so you disagree with wearing leathers all the time too then!!? Good for you - someone with the balls to live their life their way.....

ps. the red nose is still glowing well thanks!

Don't disagree with personal choice of protective equipment. Very Happy

As you well know, some of me mates wear a lid and not much else.

I'll wear me leathers for long journeys and commuting, maybe my jeans for a wee trip to the shops. But then not being a lard arse, I get cold in just jeans, where as my leathers keep me toasty and relatively dry.

As to speed and stuff, I think (after a chat with diesel this weekend) the whole thing is rather subjective.

I think I'm a bit slow compared to what I could be (there is no should, ride for yourself), but diesel thinks I ride fast. I don't try to race her (no way is an ER5 going to beat an SV650 from the lights), I just ride at my own pace and style. But if she gets bored and blats off, I usually catch her before too long.

You can be quick, without going fast.

I don't know what the answer is, I'm not even sure of the question. I'll continue to ride for myself, and improve my riding by learning on the road, and doing some courses like bikesafe.

I voted "I love to use all of my bike's power & handling to the best of my ability & thrash around with a manic grin on my face", but then again I do only have an rs125

It has taken me a long time to get to the stage I am at - I like to ride fast but I am more careful at corners - however, I have noticed that I now take corners relatively quickly now too. I am beginning to understand about the vanishing point but I will do a search for more information as that would help me a great deal. I sadly cant ride as much as I would like to as I have arthritis and sometimes am unable to get on the bike or use the levers - and I also cant let myself get too cold as I will pay for that big time - hence I don't ride in the rain! I am currently riding a CBR 400 but am now thinking about upgrading to a 600 - just not sure what yet, with legs as short as mine my options are limited, but when I do upgrade I hope that my riding will improve yet further. I try to be courteous at all times and be aware of how my actions will affect others. so I would like to say I am a good rider - but I am definitely still learning!

Maybe it's not your style but have you ever considered something like a BMW or fazer, they have heaters for legs (not so much the fazer) and heated grips are always an option and a much more "arthritis friendly" riding position.

with the position your hands are in on the cbr400, reaching the levers with arthritis would be very uncomfortable but in a more upright position maybe you'd be more comfy.

unfortunately fazer to tall and BMW too heavy! I have to be careful about being too upright though as that sends all the vibration through my spine and leaves me crippled! I am currently thinking about the hornet.... but we will see - I am getting new boots as soon as I get the time to get down to hein gerrikes and hopefully that will give me enough extra leg height for me to try some other bikes. Fingers crossed.

Hi

Quite a few bikes are not that bad in height. How tall are you?

All the best
