Thought we was a bit lucky not to be hit by the snow. Woke up to this...

It's fine though, I'm quite used to riding in the snow now.

Same in Southampton. Probably won't be riding in it but I have to figure out a way of getting back home to Essex for Christmas Confused Probably end up taking the train...10 miles on snow I could deal with, but 100 is a bit much.

I'm walking to my mates house a mile away where my RXS is living, while I have his YBR to do my test on (eventually...). We'll see what the main roads on the way are like. Trouble is that I can't use motorways so would have to go via Winchester which I'm told is a bloody nightmare in the snow.

It seems here (Cambridge) is one of the few places to not have much snow.

It snowed the other day and theres still some about but it was only about half an inch.

Got some in Manchester, but the roads are slushed up already, and I gritted the drive last night in preparation, so there are no worries.

Not so, your thin tyres have better chance of cutting through it.
Same goes for cars - anything on wide tyres is hopeless.

Main roads seem to be gritted and fine. The only problem are the back roads where the snow has been compacted into ice...nothing to cut through. Not done any riding today but I have got my RXS back in one piece after having the footpeg welded back on Razz

Have you see the tyres on a off roader? You want as much traction as you can get, for that you want big tyres!

Not in snow and ice, you have to push so much of it down it gives huge rolling resistance making your vehicle like a snowplough.
We get feet of snow here most winters - wide tyres = bad in snow.

Wide knobblies > narrow nobblies > narrow road tyres > wide road tyres.

no snow here in chesterfield today thank god, we had more than our fair share a few weeks back, was over 2 feet thick in open areas and drifts were 3 times that, it's still not melted fully yet either Confused

Oh and thin tyres are 100 times better than fat ones, used the cg the other week and it was epicly better than the 400 in the thick stuff, fatter tyres may be better on ice but not snow
