More of an aftertaste with the Irish Meadow but not enough to justify the difference in price.

Cheap whisky mixed with evaporated milk and a pinch of coffee is what we used to do when I was a student.

Irish Meadow or similar if I'm making a "Baileys" coffee
I still love the coffee flavour Baileys if I'm drinking it over ice Thumbs Up

Some of my most embarrassing times have been caused by supping copious amounts of Baileys and whisky over ice. Anyone that hasn't tried that combination really should do so. I have tried various cheap alternatives to Baileys and have always been disappointed. Irish Meadow is one that I haven't tried but after reading this review I might give it a bash:-

Used to take Irish Cream liquer from asda (£3 a bottle about 8 years ago) but nowadays baileys is just what I give to my mum when I can't think of a decent xmas present, so I can't really be a dick and give her cheap stuff.

I've got Baileys in the cupboard along with Kahlua and Amrula, however, what is of most concern to me is the half bottle of Advocaat Shocked I will need to get at least another bottle, as it wouldn't be Christmas without copious quantities of Snowballs. I've loads of lemonade, limes and brandy, so more of the yellow stuff required! Thumbs Up

If you're mixing drink then it's ok to go with the cheap stuff, but if you're drinking it on it's own, I think you need to go with the proper job.................until you've had a skin full then you can change to the cheap stuff without even noticing (until the next morning)! Mr. Green

There is a motorbike rally up North that features an event called the Baileys Challenge.

It's a three part challenge.
1) Who can down a bottle of baileys the fastest.
2) Who can hold it down for longest.
3) Who can vomit in the most perfect circle. (as in spin round as you vomit onto balck tarmac).

A bloke from Shetland wins every year.

Mrs. Silky has bought 2 bottles of advocaat over the past month.
Specifically for Christmas and hidden away.

She failed however to take into consideration my detectivering skills... and my bribery skills (the kids saw her hiding them).
We now have 1/4 of a bottle left, and no lemonade (R Whites only please ... Schweppes at a push.... anyone using Tescos own etc should be sterilised)

FWIW did a trawl of the Christmas food sites to find offers and anything more interesting and different for the festive season.

Of all places at Lidl came across the attached homemade advocaat recipe. Maybe of some use to those that like the stuff.

Just need egg yokes, rum or vodka, condensed milk and milk. Plus some bottles for storage.

Thumbs Up

I love snowballs, however, I also love neat advocaat and I get the impression off other people that it's wrong Eh? I should get some really, not that i'll drink a fraction of it but just so there's the option if I decide to have a drink.

As for Irish Meadow, tastes different to Baileys but very similar and, as said, not £12 worse so I wouldn't buy Baileys. The shelf in Tesco where it's sold is usually empty despite the huge promotional stands of Baileys everywhere.

Some time ago (over ten years, now) Baileys had a promotion where it was double for the price of a single in a lot of pubs.
So I'd often go and finish the evening in the pub off with a couple of quad shots - one night I stuck to Baileys in one pub (some drinks before) and ended up drinking 34 shots their and still not feeling THAT drunk - seems you do get a bit of a tolerance to it (pretty sure it wasn't watered down).

There is only one lemonade Shhh! remember? Mr. Green

My Dad worked for them and as kids we had loads of promotional stuff - hats, stickers etc. but Mum was a complete meanie and wouldn't let us drink the lemonade, as it was bad for our teeth! Rolling Eyes

Aye. But guzzle a whole bottle in around the 20-30 second mark and it's a case of when, not if it's coming back up again.

How long do people generally last before bringing it back up?

Oh yes. Think technoviking but taller, with more facial hair and with a phisique obtained by building oil rigs and eating lots of red meat rather than going to the gym.

I don't mind the odd Baileys here and there, but I won't drink the cheap shite.

I don't like how they've adulterated it with other "flavours" now either.

I have to admit, my favourite tipple like that is Amaretto di Saronno (not cheap and nasty amaretto, either, has to be the proper thing), or ... even better ... a proper made Brandy Alexander cocktail, mmmmmmm.

And the extra-thick double cream with Baileys in, is nasty, too.
I tried it, but decided to stick to the cream with cognac in it instead.
Cool Thumbs Up

I got a bottle of 'Soiree', which is a good Tia Maria rip-off and that was about £6. I am mixing it with cheap vodka and Rola-Cola for austerity Black Russians.

Having done various drinking experiments of cheap Baileys or Fakeys I can conclude that both Home Bargains and Lidl do rather good ones for 3.99. The Asda and Netto ones are a little harsher. Should you truly wish to find some proper noxious alcohol this xmas then I heartily recommend a trip to Netto were you can buy not only Foxhunters sherry (you couldnt even use it as antifreeze) and the other favourite Scotchmac. Its whiskey and wine combined Smile
They both make Frosty Jack look like the queens aperitiff.

Harold, take a step back. You're one step away from special brew/meths cocktails. Please, for your own sake and your own sanity, get a strong grip of yourself and reduce your intake of booze. Trust me, I know about what I talk.

Scotsmac is a totally confused drink. It describes itself as a blend of mature British wine and Whiskey on it's front label and a blend of mature British wine and Whisky on it's rear label.

Me and the missus went to Alcudia in Mallorca on holiday a few years ago (we've been there a few times, but this time's relevant) and were on a late flight. We landed at something like 2200. It's miles from the landing gates to baggage claim, then we had to pick up a hire car, so by the time we'd driven from the airport and across the island up to Alcudia, it was about 1am and we were knackered and couldn't be bothered going out for a drink.

Now, here's the thing. My missus loves Baileys. It was on offer in the airport going out, so we'd bought 4 bottles (I know, I couldn't believe it either), one original, one mint, a coffee and a caramel. By the time we'd got to Alcudia, all the shops were shut so we couldn't go buy beer, wine or anything and there was sod all in the apartment. So we got stuck in to the Baileys. I think we managed 3 bottles between us before retiring at silly o'clock in the AM. The next morning, we were fucking rancid. I've never experienced a hangover like it, headache, nausea, vomiting, shits, it was an "whole body" hangover, the likes of which I never want to repeat. I still like the stuff though, unlike cider, which I still can't drink to this day...
