Project bikes often dont work out any cheaper than buying a runner, and if its not a bike you'd actually buy, as a runner, you could be just wasting time, money and effort for no real saving, and little joy at the end.
But, if pennies are tight, and it is a bike you'd consider, and you fancy the challenge of a project... AFTER working out the odds and changes and pottential costs..... go for it.
Remember, get that bike now, and by the time you are ready to ride it, it'll probably need MOTing and Taxing which adds £50 to the price, before anything else, and risk that you'll have 'hassle' if you've missed anything fundemental, important or just plain silly in the build.
As for the plastics. On a budget build, and with eight or nine months before its shceduled for the road.... personally I'd buy a cheap soldering iron, save scrap plastic, learn to plastic weld, apply patience, and use it as a way to while away long winter evenings of being broke, saving up the pennies for the expensive stuff.
Boring, but compared to playing X-Box at least you have something to show for it at the the end of the milenium! ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

Your only jelouse..... Rob,
Remember, they have to actually notice you, before they can Laugh!
& surveys consistently say, girls go for a bloke that can make them laugh, rather than a muscled hunk, or ritch poser, 9/10 times! ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!
