Ok, so I've had a few problems with my CBF125, and I've been left with a few options. These are the only options, so please try (I know it's hard not to say, "do your DAS and buy xxxx") to base any answer around these few deals:

Have my CBF fully warranty repaired and keep it
Get full RRP part ex and buy an 58 plate RS125 for £900 extra
Wait for 2 months and get the same RRP trade on a new CBR125 (2011 model) which will cost about a grand+
Straight swap for a new CBF125 which now have rev gauges (whoop! Whoop!)

(just for the record, I am supposed to be doing my test early next year, but will remain on a 125 for a year or so for various reasons, far too ridiculous to enter into right now....

Look forward to reading your opinions....

Swap it for another CBF and keep the money stashed away for insurance/gear/bling once you've passed your test.

It rusted very badly, very quickly (less than 4 weeks) and highlighted some severe build qualities. Seems like a one off, but it's knocked my confidence in the model.

Marki is right, get another cbf Thumbs Up . No point wasting money, keep it for when you've passed your test. I bet you'll soon get the itch for a bigger bike when you pass.

Dont get an RS125 if you need your bike to be your regular mode of transport, or if youre not prepared to maintain it meticulously. Dont get me wrong....its a cracking bike but needs lots of love to keep it running well, and is made for performance not commuting etc...

I hear what you're saying about saving coin, but the RS is such a great bike....problem of course with that option is going from new to a two year old high maintenance machine.

Seeing these answers is black and white though, makes me realise that maybe just sticking with the CBF is probably the best option...

That.

Also, it sounds like your dealer is looking after you - name and praise!

Photos are in the workshop forum, titled, Rust....don't talk to me about rust. (Apologies for utterly useless forum use, I've no idea how to link threads....sorry!)

Dealer was originally Portsmouth, who were legends, but are now in the hands of the receiver. Honda UK have taken up the baton and are being outstanding in the handling of this. (Maybe this is a good reason to stick with Honda as well?)

I've heard so much about the almost legendary un-reliability of the RS, but I can't find too much hard evidence to back it up. As a nipper, we all used to race around on two strokes, with very little bother. I've owned TS, DT, RD and RG's and never had problems. Cripes, we never even ran them to temperature before screwing the arse off them!

The RS I'm being offered, is very low mileage, one owner in mid 30's and is showroom nick. It has got to be a thousand times more fun than the CBF!

The dosh is not the overriding factor for me here, it's about getting the best deal with the best bike. Commuting, not really an issue as I work from home. Site visits may just be a bit more fun on a great performing machine....

The corrosion on that CBF is unreal, my 17 year old Yamaha is tidier ffs Laughing

Back on topic, The RS125 is getting dropped for the RS4 next year right? If you can keep it mint and the mileage down the little stroker might not be a bad investment when summer rolls around.

To me, riding a 125 is about getting experiance and confidence, then you pass your test and get a performance sportsbike. But if its what you want then go for it.

Agreed. Bit theoretical cause it sounds like you've had plenty of experience with bikes anyway but i personally dont think machines like the rs125 should be available for learners to ride on a cbt - if they dont kill themselves they kill the bikes and thats just not on.

I've got a CBF125 and seeing the corrosion problems you have I'm starting to get slightly worried.

Althought if I was in your shoes I would do a straight swap for a new CBF. Keep your money to use for your next bike.

I would get a 2011 CBR if i was you. (didn't realise you had to pay grand on top for it)

In this case get new CBF, buy a decent amount of ACF50 and spray it over metal parts in big amounts every time you wash a bike (approx once a week) if you want to have 100% rust free bike.

This is what I have done....

.....full warranty repairs to be completed and the bike restored to 'as new', free first service, free Honda rack and top box, free high windscreen and a heavily discounted Arrow exhaust system.

I'm pretty darned happy with that. Big thumbs up to Honda!

Thanks for all the comments, it has made my decision easier.
