If you got a copy of Itchy's book for Christmas.

*puts hand up*

It was from my sister, and she had absolutely no idea that Itchy's from BCF, so it was a bit weird explaining to her that I've gotten ratarsed with the author...

What he said.

Itchy should have broadcast it here and offered fellow BCF'ers signed first prints.

Very true but signed first prints are always worth having. Even if just for personal value. A friend of mine published a book of short poems and as a gift for her closest we got signed first copies. Never going to be worth more than the retail value but priceless in personal terms.

Oo, Itchy, you dark horse!! Cool Thumbs Up
That's fab.

If I had known (now that I know), I'd push it amongst people for all it was worth, but its only if you know about these things that you can do stuff like that for your mates (even if they're only cybermates).

That's the frustrating thing about BCF and its "karma spam police". Its quite stupid that if you had an interesting project, it would be something you'd be wary about, mentioning it here. I wouldn't dream of mentioning any of my projects on here, for fear of being spammed into eternity, LOL.

No matter how much of a long term member you are, its always about the power of the idiots who have no idea about how to sensibly use the karma ratings to improve the life of the community instead of make a name for themselves as a spambuster (cos they can't make a name for themselves with any other aspect of their personality).

Anyway rant over, well done Itchy!
Cool Cool Cool

Well said Hellkat.

I think the karma system works well here, and ive seen this site grow from its very humble beginings to what it is today.
There are the odd knobs tho that do use karma in the wrong way, and like you say the ones that generaly are little nobodys.

But as for Itches book, he did keep that very quiet, Ive never seen him mention it at all.
Well done old chap.

I can see why Itchy perhaps didn't promote it on here as his ride report/blog took quite a slating and he stopped updating it, or maybe that was because he knew he was going to release the book.

The only thing I will say is that when reading his blog it seemed to concentrate on the negative parts of the trip like how many times he was robbed rather then the good things, when reading other ride reports I've felt inspired and that maybe thats something I'd like to do even with my limited experience and budget. But after reading Itchys I thought 'fuck that it seems way to dangerous'.

Saying that I'd be interested to read the book so will get it anyway Thumbs Up

Actually, I lie. I have mentioned my Borisbusters spidery thing on here, but not in a context of advertising it, just in passing when people post ghastly spider pix, LOL. I really must look into labels for that, get it properly up and running.

So anyway, I'm always for encouraging authorial talents, cos I have been suffering from writers block myself for Far Too Long, and yesterday I was having a glimmering of creative inspiration. So its back to my serial killers, then.

When writing a daily diary type thing one bad event can offset all the good events of the day. Itchy getting robbed would taint everything that happened for the day. As it would anyone else. Sadly this is the risk that is taken by anyone venturing into unknown territory.

I'd love to read the book. Hopefully it will have a "boots and all" style of writing to it. I've read the Long way around book and that was done with full support and back up in case something went wrong, which it did several times. From the clicky in an earlier post it seems Itchy done this with no support or bail out if things went tits up. To me the disasters would be just as worth reading as the days where he had positive experiences. If anything it will be a more honest account of solo travels with a bike than the Ewan Mcgregor book is. After all, in the great scheme of things Itchy is a nobody where Ewan Mcgregor was recognisable everywhere he went because he was Obi Wan Kenobi.

Maybe he was just unlucky or other riders choose to not include all the bad stuff but disaster did seem to follow him. It was humorous but a little unbelievable in the entries I read and didn't really include anything about the actual places. More about his thoughts and bad luck although maybe that is more what the book is about.

I'm surprised you haven't noticed. It's all he seems to do. Maybe it makes him feel like the moderator he desperately wants to be.

From what I remember about the blogs, Itchy came across abit...... selfish ( for want of a better word), if I remember correctly he left someone early on his trip because his bike was playing up instead of sorting it out together, or was that someone elses blog? Also a little lapse with gear as in all his tools fell of the bike and he didn't bother to get them.
Now I'm not slagging off, as it takes all types to make the world go round and he has done trips I would love to do so I am jealous in many respects, but when I have been on trips /tours with mates, we never left someone behind unless that person said it was ok and we had a meeting point for us all at somewhere else on our trip.
I will probably get his book, for a number of reasons, one of which is giving support to someone on BCF who has some get up and go about themselves, even if I may not always agree with them. Thumbs Up

It was Nath who also sometimes posts on here that he went with. Nath made a blog as well- https://nath-in-russia.blogspot.com/
They both just didn't seem to get on and moaned about the other in there blogs.
I think its pretty easy to get annoyed about the little things other do when your with them 24/7 in some stressful situations.
I went backpacking with a couple of mates for a year and we had a few lovers tiffs Smile we always made up but had it been a stranger I'm not sure I would have bothered.

My name aint Katherine Neroni, but if I ever got round to FINISHING a novel, that's [prolly] the name I would publish under. I doubt if I would publish under my real name, I couldn't be arsed with the hassles of "fame" in the modern context.
