Thought i would post this as i'm just a bit pissed off at the amount of fair weather bikers i saw on sunday down on the coast.

I was down with sara i was on my cbr she was on her moped we normally go down a couple of times during the week when we're bored for some ice cream (you can all stop laughing about NOW Wink ) and just generally sit and talk to some of the other bikers that are down just general crap really.

But on sunday past holy crap it was biker city we had all the fair weather bikers in their shiny leathers down and was thinking to myself the way they are getting on i bet theres an accident today well there was heres the text from the main story.

A family motorbike ride turned to tragedy yesterday as two brothers were killed in a road accident.

Kieran, 25, and Carl O'Loan, 20 - who were riding separate motorcycles - were killed in a collision with a car in north Antrim.

Their parents, Robin and Patricia, who were a couple of miles behind their sons and also on motorbikes came across the scene of carnage.

The crash happened on the Antrim Coast Road between Carnlough and Waterfoot just before lunchtime.

The men, from Ajax Court in Antrim town, died at the scene.

The parish priest in Antrim, the Rev Tony Devlin, described the O'Loan family as " devastated but strong".

He said the young men's parents and four siblings - Robin, Darren, Rachel and Natalie - were struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.

Fr Devlin said: " Kieran's fiancee and oneyearold daughter, as well as Carl's girlfriend, are also devastated.

"When Patricia came upon the crash, she was able to be with her sons at the time they died.

"The boys loved life, loved their bikes and everything to do with biking - they are a real biking family."

Fr Devlin said the strength of the O'Loan family was evidenced in the "great sadness" they were feeling for the family of the man driving the car involved in the crash, who suffered shock.

"This is evidence of the strength of the family.

" They have also asked other bikers to be careful and think about their loved ones before they get on their motorbikes

I dare say theres a morale to all this at the minute though can't really think about it. Thumbs Down

Report doesn't say who was to blame though does it. Confused Just you jumping to conclusions about 'Sunday riders'. For all you know it could have been the car's fault.

And to be honest, if Mum, Dad and two sons were all into bikes, it would strike me that there is a history of biking in the family. This would imply slightly more experience than just Sunday riding.

Recently (about a month or two ago) down a local A Road, a Caravan was overtaken by some lads in a Nova, unfortunalty there was a biker with pillion coming the other way at the time (which they hadn't seen or were just ignoring), and the result was the Nova and bike met head on.

The Biker was dead at the scene and the pillion was rushed to hospital (not sure if she survived). The scum bags in the Nova pegged it with the exeption of one who was too inured in the crash. Mad Not sure how it went from then on (hopefully they caught the bastards and the pillion survived with no long term injuries) but it shows how irresponsable people can be, and how easy it is to be killed on a bike Crying or Very sad .

The thing is our local newspaper that week had a headline about some villege feat (its a very small town) and this terrible crash had only about 70 words at the edge of one of the inside pages which really pisses me off, especially considering a good few years ago even I made it to the front page (with colour photo)when the group of scouts I was in had their hair cut for charity Thumbs Down . Pisses me off that this thing that calls itself a newspaper only prints the happy stories and just ignores anythin bad that happens, infact despite local murders and stabbings etc, the only time something bad appears on the cover is when a child dies.

Sorry for that off topic rant.

To be perfectly honest I don't care if someone is a "Sunday Rider", so what. The world's full of all sorts of people, some ride bikes, some don't, some are twats some aren't. There is no point calling a dead man a tit, the most important thing here is that someone died and left a family devastated. Penny Coin Penny Coin

Agree with Sadie, looks like they not in the power ranger wannabee category if it's a family thing. Any sudden, violent death is tragic. I wish people wouldn't leap to using stereotypes Sad

If you want to blame stupid riders get along to Squires near Sherbourn. Recently one guy pulled a wheelie - right into the front of a transit van. Police said he'd be lucky to live, I don't know if he made it. I'm glad I wasn't on my bike coming the other way when he lost it (I was on my way there, got turned back by police) Neutral No wonder the police presence is high in the area, who can blame them when there's this irresponsibility (rant over).

Do these 'fair weather bikers' have signs on their backs Exclamation

If they choose to ride during the summer months then that is their choice. Doesn't make me think any less of another biker just because I ride all year round.

This is a tragic accident however it happened and my thoughts are with the family at this sad time, I cannot imagine what must have been going through the parents minds when they came across their sons dying in the road.... being the parent of a teenager who also rides a scooter it brings it home just how precious life is... and in an instant can be taken away..

Well well if anyone jumps to conclusions its probaly you's.

You see i did'nt say i was there and from what i have heard its still pretty sketchy what happened but i was watching many an idiot biker go from 0 to 60 in a 30 zone as soon as they left the park and got onto the busy main road, and the a2 coast road here takes more bikers lives than any other road.

I can recall its one of the worst black spots and the sooner ppl wake up and realise that doing 70 in a 30 road hell on a coast road with more twist and turns than i can count is not smart, cool or something to be proud off.

i'm sorry if i am getting annoyed here but i have been in a bad accident myself and lost my father in one so i take this stuff personal but its just another sad statistic that to the public in a year or so time will have forgotten and only the family will remember for the rest of their lives. I hope the sooner the police target this sort of behavior the better.

And as one person said here if i remember its not speed that kills its speed in unappropiate places that kills.
