Hiya,
Got some questions regarding protection. SInce I have a 125 I reckon I'd feel like a fool wearing full leathers and even black leather pants would be a bit much to strut abut work with so I've got some questions.

Namely,
1: Are Kevlar lined jeans any good? WOuld they offer protection against the rash? And how much can I expect to pay?

2:Obviously don't offer knee protection (from bumps n stuff) so can you get knee pads (AKA skate board style but for motocross etc)....Cos I could hide them under the jeans! Or even on top, cos I could remove them at work!

3: Leather or textile coat? I would like a snazzy coloured leather one, but are they any good?

4: IS a good pair of cat boots acceptable foot wear?

Thanks in advance
Craig

I don't think proper leather bike trousers are too much at all on a 125!

I myself wear the black, hard padded textile trousers, and a Hein Gericke textile jacket....along with proper boots.

You won't look a fool...whatever bike you are on...you come off at 60.....you get the same damage.

I am pretty sure you can insert armour into those jeans, apparantly it doesn't stay in place very well. Don't think cat boots will offer much protection, have a look at that picture of Korns ankle (and he was wearing proper boots) Shocked get some decent armoured boots so that if you crash the foot attached to your leg will not get twisted off Thumbs Up

for £250 you should be able to get a leather jacket (trad biker style), leather jeans, and a pair of combat boots (high leg). I have done 110 yards of A1 (75-80MPH get off) dressed like this and ended up with a scuff on the elbow of the jacket and a split seam on the trouser, the only damage to me was a bruised sholder from the impact. Dont forget some gloves tho, £20-30 should get you a decent pair, but you will probably need to replace them after a year or a crash. You need to shop around tho.

If you don't want to do the whole protective thing , the Goretex trousers with the knee and arse pads already built in seem not too bad.

Haven't TRIED them *hides from Big Pete*

... but they'd be more protective than, say, tracksuit bottoms for example Embarassed Shocked

Been almost tempted by them Goretex ones myself.

Oh God. He's going to beat me to a pulp. Shocked

I've had my gloves four years (but they are still in perfectly good nick). *runs away*

Personally I just don't like the Biker Jeans but I've never tried them. I have tried leather in a couple of accidents and it worked for me, made my mind up.

Divent flap woman (excellent phrase from the far North (Newcastle))

I only warned about replacing them because I used to wear out the cheaper gloves stitching or lining after about a year.

Ah well, I havent got such BIG BRAWNY hands Smile

Mind you, I do fancy some of those posh Terminator type things someone linked to from Ebay the other day. Phwoar. We are arguing about which size to order. He Who Thinks He Must Be Obeyed says I should order him some, so he can road test them whilst couriering, and if they're rubbish, he'll give them to me, and if they're any good, I can order myself some.

I picked up a 1 piece Frank Thomas Extreme Race suit for my 125 which only cost £200. Yes it was second hand, but there are no marks on it anywhere and it fits perfectly.

But, to be honest, your not going to pick up a deal like that. Laughing

Just buy the best gear you can afford. And hope you don't fall off either way.

You may think or feeling that you look stupid in leathers and stuff on a 125, but tarmac will hurt just as much at 70mph if you fell off a 125 as opposed to a litre class bike. And compare how stupid you think you look with protective kit on compared to how stupid you think you'd be without lots of skin and flesh.

Robby likes them.

I got a pair of Gericke textiles with knee pads & removable lining for £30 second hand on ebay - it's worth having a mooch round there if you're on a budget.

Believe those jeans are called Hood Jeans and are meant to be very good quality and Robby has crashed his etc and they've worked well. They have a website so have a browse around Google and try and find it if you're interested.

Suprisingly Hood jeans are at https://www.hoodjeans.co.uk

There's another outfit that produce textile jeans, Draggin Jeans, they're at https://www.dragginjeans.co.uk

I'm thinking of a pair of the Hein Gericke cordura jeans. I want something to ride to the office and not get changed. The info link for these is click here.

Aparently wearing 2 pairs of jeans, 1 on top of the other is almost as strong as motorcycle leather because it allows one layer to slide over the top of the other.

Has anyone else heard this?

I have friends who would strongly disgree with this, personally my comment would be "Bollocks" .

Get leathers or artificial (aramid type) fiber with armour.
