If only he'd had a bit more power than his scoot offered.......maybe a CG or a YBR would have given him the necessary power to outrun the truck Thumbs Up

RIP (I i couldn't see an 'L' plate)

Not sure it would've made much difference....that truck driver was clearly determined to get his full 10 points!

@ OP

Maybe the rider could have moved to the right......

But that could have happened to anyone on any bike, scoot or moped.

What the hell.... everyone was doing about 70 anyways.. If only he went where his moped went and his ped went where he went...

But in honesty, i think that drivers in the uk are more friendly and safer Thumbs Up

Looks like he just rammed into him, probably didn't feel a thing in that truck.

Confused

It would not have made a difference if he was on a R1, once you get rear ended you are fucked.

RIP indeed, China-bro.

Hmm, I don't remember blind spots even being mentioned on the CBT. There could really be a whole day of "And here's another way you can get killed...". Apparently the BikeSafe course covers that.

Bike safe that I went to had computer simulated crashes for several different situations that your likely to encounter. Defo worth the 25 quid or whatever it is if your a new rider

Dunno how others feel, but I dont think more bike training on how to be safe is the answer. Yeah riding a bike is more dangerous than a car, particularly in the UK where there is no space left. However, i think most of us take that in to account when we choose to start riding. Its a case of the pleasure and thrills of riding a motorcycle FAR outweigh any risks. If i die on bike I can live with that (like the pun?), better than a rotting bowel or something else equally unpleasant.

PS If you make sure you are the fastest person on the road you cant get rear-ended. Wink

Pretty sure blindspots were mentioned in CBT and test.
Can remember the instructor standing in the blind stop to demonstrate.

Not your blind spots, the blind spots of other vehicles. I got a minor on my test for stopping too close behind a bus. Apparently it could have reversed. Rolling Eyes

Ever since watching an AdvancedBiker youtube vid which VERY briefly mentioned not sitting in blind spots, it stuck prominently in my head and I've ALWAYS made sure I don't sit in blind spots from then onwards. I'm out of there like a shot. Preferably to somewhere nowhere near traffic.

And yes, with a faster bike AND PROPER OBSERVATIONS, he'd be alive. I've always got an eye on my mirrors, because of exactly this possibility. I don't trust people. People are dicks.

The scooter rider made a bit of an attempt to get out the way moving to the left, but not quick enough.

I think it shows why its good that the new bike test has a swerve component to it. If the scooter guy had swerved to the left quicker, he would have been alive. He didnt know what would be approaching in that lane, as his view into that lane would be obscured by the truck in his lane, but still better to be there than in the path of the truck.

True though that a more powerful bike could have just sped up to get out of the way.

The big red splat was a bit shocking.

Ah - pretty sure they were mentioned at the same time in both cases - a quick "can you see the driver in the mirror" thing.

Why would anyone need a reason not to ride a scooter? Unless they were either a 16 year old girl or a poofter, surely no one would ever consider doing something as fundamentally wrong as riding a scooter?
