Shocked

Very little surprises me these days, I bet it was automatic. We've had pensioners drive through their garage walls where they've gone to stop, pressed the wrong pedal and lurched forward. Instead of pressing the brake, they hit the accelerator even harder!!

I notice a puncture on the Pug, but I don't see any skid marks to show massive braking. He went a long way along the pickup before hitting the bike...

I think that old man should have a re-test if they don't take his licence away.

the other day. i had a car in front of me that went to turn left and then stopped.

the old lady just started reversing straight away without checking behind her so i had to paddle the bike backwards quickly

the old dear then drove off turned left again and stopped in the same place and went to reverse again

this time i rode around her and carried on

people over a certain age should be re-tested and banned from the road if they fail

I agree completely, did anyone see a programme on TV a while ago (can't remember the name or which channel, not a lot of help I know, BUT) where this old boy was about 70-ish and had been driving for the last 20 or so years and he was practically blind!!!!! Shocked Cool

All these reality TV programmes... I want a "Britains oldest drivers" programme.

I want them to put them in some simple situations and show how dangerous they are.

Re-test every five years until the age of 60, then every 2 years until 70, then every year.

If you can afford to drive/ride, and it means that much to you, you can afford to pass a test.

Shade
Fed up of bad driving AND riding.

Pulled up to a pump at petrol station next to old duffer who had just finished filling up.
Put £10 in the bike, 'old bloke' started walking (sorry hobbling) to pay the same time as me. It took him ages to get petrol cap back on. Rolling Eyes I had paid and got back to the bike before he had reached the door of the garage......So god knows what his reactions would be if something happened when he was driving! It would take him 10 seconds to hit the brake pedal let alone push it down.

Ban Em All!!!

While I do agree with some of the points made in this post, you can't tarnish all pensioners with the same brush!
My Grandad drove for nearly 50 years and he was a HGV driver for most of that time and he was one of the best and safest drivers I knew before his death in 2000.

But I do agree that ALL drivers should have to sit some sort of retest at regular periods. Most drivers out there haven't got a clue what there doing or where there going!
It would cut down in accidents IMHO, if everyone were retested say every 10 years when your licence needs to be renewed etc.

If you think about it there are driver out there who never took a test there that old/ have been driving that long!
My dad passed his test in the 60's and he is a good driver but in the 60's there were less cars/bikes/traffic than there are now!

Oh and that Peugeot driver needs to be banned, silly old fools!

I think on the first photo it says the seat cover was removed to get camera out, so I think the rider is taking the photo's, so hopefully they are OK.

Bloody scary though, just sitting there and all of a sudden that clobbers you up the exhaust pipe.... ouch.

Thats the reason why you should click your bike into neutral and cover the rear brake at traffic lights Wink.

So if you do get rear ended then you don't get throw off the bike etc Smile.

Not really practical though as it would require a 5 fold increase in the number of driving examiners, and mass unemployment for those who failed (because the did their shoulder checks in the non government approved order).

All the best

those who failed shoudn't be driving, and the five fold increase would be good for both the economy and the unemployment list.

Bet most people would fail on minor and irrelevant items. After all the current test is not so much about your ability to drive but more ability to jump through the legal hoops.

A driving test every 10 years probably means 3m driving tests a year.

All the best

It is also your ability to keep up with the law, and changes in driving.

I know there were some things introduced, and some things I had forgotten, from the time I took my car test to the time I sat my bike test.

Re-tests could include motorways (since they are not learners), and lane discipline, all sorts of things to make the roads safer.

And if most people fail... there is something wrong with their driving.

Shade

I've always been baffled as to why using a motorway is not included in the training or the test?

After I passed my test I went on the motorway to meet the northern lot on the way to bdb. By the time I got to the services 3 junctions down I was shitting myself.

Never got told anything about using a motorway or anything all I had to go on was the highway code.

You want to try passing your driving test on an island with no traffic lights, roundabouts, dual carrigeways, zebra crossings, box junctions, traffic islands...

Lets just say the first drive to Glasgow was a somewhat stressful affair. Confused
