It's four years unless it's a biggie like drunk driving or causing death by dangerous driving.

So let's say you got caught for speeding, you get three points, then six months later you get caught again for the same offence, you would have to wait four years from that date, then you would lose all six and start again? Also, if it was dangerous driving or under the influence, what is it then?

From Jan 05 insurance companies will ask for all motoring convictions dating back up to 11 years. Shocked

The points stay on for each offence until the date for the individual offence has passed. First one off, six months later second one off.

It's 11 years for one of the big offences I believe.

Speeding points are active for 3 years.
Driving without due care and driving without insurance are active for 5 years.
Driving under the influence of drink or drugs, reckless driving and death by reckless/dangerous driving are active for 11 years.

they stay on your licence for 4 years but only count for 3 years.....

Right, except for a few serious codes.

They are only of real relevance for 3 years, but must stay on your licence for 4 years.
