In the past year or so i've seen a few good war films advertised on TV, can't remember any names though. any clues?

There was the one on bomb disposal and i swear there is a few others.

Any good action/army/thriller suggestions also appreciated, i'm bored

cheers

I got one called Windtalkers for the hell of it. I haven't watched it all but I seen a bit of action at the beginning and it was fucking hilarious. It was so bad it was brilliant. Probably a right shite film but still...

That doesn't help you at all, does it?

Not particularly no....but i'm bored as a dick!
Bike is not running as of yesterday and i didn't get paid before christmas so can't fix it, so i'm a bit of a hermit at the moment.

I think one of the films i'm on about is called green zone?

Hurt Locker is about bomb disposal, keep meaning to get it.

Windtalkers unfortunately has Nicholas Cage in so it was destined to be rubbish, it was actually not that bad though, just not great.

There are some really good lesser known WW2 films that I like, Saints and Soldiers is one and Dark Blue World is also good but is a bit more romantic than constant fighting, When Trumpets Fade also isn't too bad although it's a bit too much one man hero stuff. I personally quite like older stuff too such as Where Eagles Dare and Heroes of Telemark.

Couple of good war movies around. Depends on what your interested in.

Want the violent side of things then go for the likes of Full metal Jacket. Platton. Black hawk. Hamburger hill

Want a good drama side of things check out the likes of Shindlers List, The pianist, Downfall.

All great movies.

I like Letters From Iwo Jima... very much a drama and soldiers story as opposed to a bloodbath and firefight for 90 minutes

I remember watching a war movie about POW's where they have to work on the railway. A bit like the old Bridge on the River Kwai but it wasnt there. I wish I could think of the title but sadly it was given to me by a Polish friend and had a Polish title. English movie with subtitles.

EDIT: Movie was called "To end all wars"

I watched Apocalypse Now for the first time ever a couple of months ago. What an over rated piece of crap. What the fuck is that bit with the sargent making the dudes surf whilst shells are dropping left right and centre all about? One to avoid.

Not actually seen it, I always got the feeling it'd be junk, Thin Red Line is another pile of pretentious toss, all the arty farty people think it's great though hence all the 'awards'.

Ah yeah, I turned that film off with another 45 mins to go (something I very rarely do) because I just didn't really care what happened next. In fact I think I was expecting the credits to appear and when it cut to another scene I just got fed up as I couldn't see where the story was goof, or even what the story was for that matter. It had a couple of good scenes in it but that doesn't make a good film unfortunately.

Imo the best war 'film' ever made.
