I'm planning on getting a bike for the summer, will probably have it for 4 or 5 months and this seems to be the case for most insurance companys... they try and charge you for cancelling it
Even if you don't own the bike can you just say STFU and not cancell it to get a years no claims?

How did you pay it....
One payment
Or
Monthly.
If it was monthly then it could be the fact you take out a loan to pay the ins.
Raise a complaint via their process and copy the FSA in. FSA won't get involved till you have completed Ebikes process, but should you then wish to take it to the FSA. Ebike will back down as it costs them around £400, win or lose. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

A cancellation free? Considering eBikeInsurance don't even charge for putting bikes on and off mid policy, punishing you for giving up the ability to make a claim against them seems all kinds of mental.
A smart insurer would say "Sorry you're leaving, we hope you'll try us again", but "smart insurer" seems a bit like "jumbo shrimp". ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Ah... eBike! I love them
75 quid cancellation fee applies
Basically if your policy premium is 100 and you cancel 8 months before the end (like you did) you owe them money.
100 - (100*4/12) - 75 = 100 - 34 -75 = - 9 |

can't say i do, mainly as i've only ever cancelled 1 insurance policy mid way through, if i knew i was planning a new bike i'd time it right.
point still stands that the OP knew the terms when he signed up unless he's a moron (no offence OP). [suppose my karma will start to be bashed now] |
And it is for this reason the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977 and Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999, exist. Because of companies like eBike, who take the pee in the small print, knowing most people don't read it.
I'm not legally trained, but i would argue in small claims court (where you don't need a lawyer) that it is unreasonable and unfair. It does not "cost" the broker £75 to cancel your policy whatever they say, they're clearly on the make (especially in the multitude of examples already mentioned, where they are charging you to save them money
This is why merely signing a piece of paper doesn't give the company the right to enslave your entire family, because it's clearly unreasonable! (and illegal, obviously ) ____________________ -- Ingah |
