Good stuff. It is a very eloquent language. If you can get over the vast amount of rules regarding grammar, it's a doddle, but there is dozens upon dozens. Two genders, three grammatical numbers, (only) three cases and a bunch of other stuff to remember. Do you speak any Arabic at the moment?

I just have a few basic words but I know a good few Arabic speakers ( Bloke next door is from Yemen and I know kids from Algeria and Morocco. I like to tell them that I am an Engineer (I was) and could I look at their horse and camel. Phonetically......Ana Muhandis, mish a shufti el awd i el gamel? I know this is rubbish but it amuses me. However I know what a great and beautiful language Arabic is and would love to be able to read things like "Layla and Majnun" in the origional as I can with Pushkin.

If you learnt Russian, you must have an aptitude for language so you should be fine. You may find that your friends will speak Arabic differently due to the various dialects, and say setences very differently if you haven't done so already.

My lass knows arabic pretty well (she is lebanese), I don't think she can read/write it very well though. She also mixes in french and spanish and alsorts, it's interesting to listen to.
