I'm not sure about it, but I think that maybe 20-40hp per cylinder!... which is a fair bit on a four... on a 600 40hp extra is still quite a significant amount, if you look in streetfighters etc. most of the NOS bikes don't actually have it giving them that ridiculous amounts more power.

Yeah. Imagine a stock bike with 100hp. Then a NOS adding 160hp. Fastest thing on the planet??

A *fairly* stock engine can probably handle an extra 40-60hp with out too much problems for short amounts of time.... but you're gonna need to have *a lot* of mods done for it to cope with 160hp extra at the touch of a button.

/me has bin looking into nos for his storm... and i rekon safely all i could add was 50bhp.. with a nos commander, which lets u bring in the nos at 15% power and all the way up to 100% after a set interval.. if u just added 50bhp straight away it would most probably do a lot of damage, and remember the lower the rpm the more nos gets into the cycle, so the torque is dependant on rpm... at low rpm a 50bhp nos kit would make the engine fall out Smile

as long as u have a nos commander thingie it shouldnt put any extra stress on the engine... if u dont and just start wacking the button ull fuck it rather quick Confused

From the pages of RIDE mag:
Supercharger: £3500 - £4500, 30 - 170 Bhp increase.
Turbocharger: £3500 - £4500, 30 - 170 Bhp increase.
Nitrous: £650, 50 - 120 Bhp incease.

Hmm, I wonder why so few people bother with superchargers or turbos!

ooo..../me wants a super charger Smile.... you get more power all the way through the rev range and you don't 'run out' if you use it too much Smile
You don't see them much on bike though so I assume they're fairly hard to fit (what with being directly connected to the engine and all)

Yeah, that and the cost of the kit. Those prices are for the parts only, you would be looking at anther £1000 to have a supercharger fitted! Shocked

Turbos seem to be a lot more common than supercharges

Probably blow up. You might be ok with a small power increase but it wouldnt be worth the money.

apparantly turbos don't work well on bikes with less than 4 cylinders.... I've seen NOS'd C90s and CGs in various magazines though... it *should* work with the 2stroke but may be a bit more complicated..

/me wonders if it would work on a 500mx engine Very Happy

1.) you would probably have a bike that costs more than a very decent GSX-R1000 (but not worth more)

2.) it's not only the engine that you should be concerned about. The entire chassis would probably fall apart under the pressure (ok, maybe not immediately)...the NSR would certainly not have the facility to cool the engine sufficiently...

Hi

NOS will work on a 2 stroke. A turbo might work, but would not work that well as you would loose all the effects of an expansion chamber exhaust. Supercharger might work but would be very difficult to fit and might land up with a very narrow powerband (a problem when you try and reduce crankcase volume to increase the preasure in there to push the fuel / air mix into the cylinder)

All the best

Keith
