So my GPZ has disappeared from outside the girlfriend's house tonight, was there at half 7, went out at 8 and it was gone.

Got the police out looking just now, apparently, but not holding out much hope.

Only paid £300 for the thing, and it was in a shite state anyway, so i'm not too pissed off.. more pissed about having to take the bus home.

Now, aside from the bike, is the insurance.

It's insured TPFT, but can i claim if it's been nicked from the girlfriend's house rather than mine?

It had a disk lock on it, which they've taken aswell...

I'd rather claim for the cash than the bike, even though i've done all that work to it, i'd still rather have something better Laughing

Cheers

Dont see why you cant claim from outside the GFs place. At the end of the day the bike was stolen. If you had it nicked while in town shopping it would be the same thing.

At least it wasn't worth that much, but yes you should bge able to claim for it.

I don't think there is anywhere that says you can't claim if the bike is stolen anywhere else other than at home and work.

What is your excess?

You probably won't get the full amount and they will try and make everything hard for you.

Long as i get £300 back for it, i'm happy.

Can't remember what my excess is just now, but i don't think it's too much.

At £300, he'll probably end up paying out a lot more than £300 in the long run - so I'd advise against claiming; if you do, very carefully workout exactly how much extra you'll be paying.

I'd not bother claiming tbh, depending on how many years NCB you have, You'll go back to 0, and have a claim, will probably cost you more in the long run.

Only have 1 year no claim just now, and being a student with a shitty income, i can't afford to buy a new bike.

Since the claim for my accident on 11/2009 is still ongoing, i'll not be getting that any time soon, and this will be the only way to get any money to get another form of transport.

Cheers

Sorry to hear of your loss.

Insurance should pay out well, agree with the others that its may go up, but from a friend's experiance it shouldn't go up too much.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could just blow the fuckers when they nick our bikes by mobile rigged to c4.....

Insurance usually stipulates that if it's not parked where you said it was being kept and was within 6 miles of that location when stolen, the excess doubles.

So say I said mine was being kept in a shed and it was stolen from the street within 6 miles of that shed, my excess would double.

Terms vary from company to company.

Have you checked down Craigmillar direction yet? Bit of a step-up for the wee scrotes to nick a 500 but I wouldn't put it past them, in which case it'll probably be dumped when it runs out of fuel or they crash so hard they hurt themselves.

The police won't go in there looking for it.

Well it's about 20 miles from where it's usually parked...

Police are heading to Niddrie, round the jack kaine centre... not holding out much hope for it though to be honest...

If it doesn't turn up by saturday i'll claim...

Should i report it to the insurance now? or wait?

You seem to have all the bad luck mate Thumbs Down

I hope you get it back / get a decent wedge from the insurers.

Personally, id say ring them now, or they'll want to know why you waited so long.

I'll phone them tomorrow morning, since it's gonna be my birthday, and i don't have the insurance documents handy just now - as i'm at the girlfriend's house.

Hopefully it doesn't turn up.... I don't want to be tempted into the whole 'ooh, i can fix that!' thing and end up with no money at all.

Check to see if your insurance is cancelled upon a claim.

The cost of getting re-insured for the remaining term can easily be more than the money you're getting back,

I doubt it's worth your while claiming, as even if you insured it for a grand, if similar bikes are available for £300 and nothing for a grand, that's all you'd get.

Also, your excess is probably £150-200 and you'll easily pay that again in the next insurance. Oh, and as G said, they'll probably cancel your insurance...
