The latest bike to come from Honda America - its based on the Goldwing and uses the same 1800 six cylinder engine.

Its huge.

No, its bigger than that. Its like a supertanker on wheels. Its also very cool. I can't decide if its good looking or not, but it is definately cool.

If you want one then DK have some in, it can be yours for just £19,999. Shocked

What so you think?

I like.

But the engine isn't big enough.

That back wheel cover is OTT and looks ugly.

For 20K, looks like they could've put some more bells and whistles on it. Windscreen, fairings etc. I'm assuming Honda have researched riding positions, this one looks odd somehow, I hope it's comfortable.

I'd love a go on it, but even if I could afford it, I don't think I would part with 20K for a bike.

Fair enough but even for a Goldwing, it's still 20K. You could get a pretty good car for that.

The 'Wing is cheaper, £16k I think. But yes, you could still get a good car for that money.

The Rune isn't about that though, its a style thing rather than a practical thing. Just like that £1000 Arai lid or the £30k MV F4 1000 special edition.

Ahhh no, that's a car drivers statement! "How much was that bike?" "£????'s" "You could have got a nice car for that much".

No, a bike's a bike, a car's a car.

If you have that kind of money to spend on a bike, which obviously most haven't, then I would imagine you could afford a car that would cost slightly more than £20k.

IMO prefer the old F6C - Valkyrie - for impact.
If I was ever in the market for something like this (come Saturday - all 6 numbers - please) I'd prefer to go for something a little more understated like the new Triumph Rocket 3.

You're right McJam, but looking at the Rune, I'm not sure something better from Honda's `Style' Dept couldn't have come about.

Looking at it again, that exhaust housing and the tank, the headlight.... like a cartoon bike. Very Happy It wouldn't look out of place in one of those PlayStation games.

Still, would love a go though, I have say.

For £20K you could build the bike of your dreams.
And be unique!

Are you suggesting that some of us are stupid enough to prioritise cars before bikes? Shocked Laughing .

Might have something to do with the fact that I AM a car driver too.

'Proportion' Dainesefreak. Sure if you've got the cash, you could by this and one of every type just for a change. But, in practice, if we're going to be pragmatic about it, is it worth 20K, I don't think so. Yamaha made that dreadful effort with their 1600 Warrior. It looks horrible. And it's all about styling again. All the good work they did with the Dragstars and Wildstars was undone at a stroke. When I get round to upgrading my Dragstar, it would have been nice to progress to something so big and new, but I'm not going to part with 14K for one of those and certainly not 20K for the Rune.

Nope, just something I've had said to me over the years by people who don't ride.

"How much was that?" . . . . "Oh, but you could have had a nice car for that much".

I could have if I actually wanted a car and could drive. Rolling Eyes

Then don't, buy a nice car. Razz

I'm not saying that many people will go out and spend £20k on a bike. What I am saying is that Honda have obviously done some research and decided that there is a market for it, the same as triumph. I'm fairly sure that the sort of punter these are aimed at wouldn't be worrying about the price if they were seriously looking to buy one. It's not going to be, "hmm shall I buy that new 20 grand bike or shall I get a car".

This isn't the only large cruiser on the market as I'm sure Honda realise, so I would assume that they would know most people can't spend that kind of cash on a bike, but enough will.

There was one of these parked up at the Tap last Sunday.

In the flesh it's actially a lot "beastlier" than the photos show, and the rear mudguard - fender? is truly horrible.

Saying that, being a short-arse & therefore a fan of big cruisers I too would love a go, although I suspect I'd be in grave danger of dropping it as soon as it came off the stand cos of the weight!

Not my cup of tea, although it does look better in the flesh.

But, regardless of whether you like it or not, all credit for Honda for actually putting into production what started life as a concept bike. All too often I've seen a wonderful bike (the Aprilia Blue Marlin, the Sachs Beast, a KTM...) at the NEC or trade shows only to find that it's a dreaded concept bike, which basically translates as 'tough, you'll never be able to buy one'. When I first saw the Rune I assumed it would be the same (as it was with the very odd Honda Zodia which provided the Rune with some ideas), so hats off to Sochiro's lads for actually making the damn thing.

Still not going to buy one, though. You seen the size of it??? Very Happy

The rune got tested on 'Bikes Aloud' too and the tester quite liked it.

It came about because Honda ran a competition amoung its designers to come up with a cool concept bike and the winner got to be made.

and thus the rune was born

I think the best bit on it are those forks they look well odd, but cool.
Has anyone seen the bimota tesi (or was it 3D) thats got a really strange suspension setup as well.

if you havn't here it is (its the one on the left)

for 20k I could buy a new mill, a new lathe, a new TIG set, a decent car, two decent bikes, and have a major ebay shopping trip for parts to build something and have enough left over to insure all the vehicles Shocked Very Happy

Well, sort of...
During 2000 - 2001 Honda was touting three different concept bikes - the T series - around the trade shows, all three based on the Valkyrie. It was basically a styling exercise for Honda, they paraded the bikes in front of critics and focus groups and the T2 was the one received most favourably and which went onto become the Rune.
