The Aerox? No, it doesn't have an MOT. You'll only have it for a year, so buy something with as close to a year's MOT as you can find.

Don't believe a seller who assures you that their bike will sail through an MOT, no problem. If so, they should spend £30 to add much more than that to the bike's sale value. If they won't, then ask yourself why: are they a total muppet, or are they trying to offload an MOT failed money pit on you?

Also, if you buy from a dealer, or anyone with the smell of a dealer on them, then even an MOT with the ink still wet says nothing about the condition of a bike. Dealers will punt any old wreck out the door with an MOT on it, especially if they know they're selling to a 16 year old who won't know what to do when they find they've paid for a peach and been given a lemon.

I had the Aerox 100cc for my first ped - you would enjoy that more.
Kept mine for 6 months before going to a 125 geared.
Look about because I picked my 2003 one up for £325 Thumbs Up

If I was 16 again then the first bike i would go for would be a RS/TZR/RS2 50.

However..................

You should buy with your head not your heart. The above bikes will cost you more in petrol and insurance than any other 50 and thats not taking into account the £12 a litre fully synthetic 2 stroke you need to run them on. If you crash the above the fairings are mega expensive and would probably write the bike off.

You are only 16 for a year, buy something to get you around and then when your 17 use the money you have saved to get something decent / do your test.

There are plenty of cheap brand name bikes on Ebay. Stay away from Chinese stuff, the quality is too unreliable.

Just buy a ped.
If you buy a geared 50cc, you won't have a clue. Confused
I'm guessing you've have no/little riding experience so if you go for geared as your first bike, it would be like trying to run before you can walk.
You will ride a twist & go for your cbt, so you still wouldn't have experience of gears on the road.
Not to mention the extortionate insurance, fuel and oil costs.
Best advice is, go for a moped. Build up your experience on 2 wheels and then when you're 17 perhaps consider a geared 125.
Don't listen to people telling you to buy an rs50 e.t.c.
Just go for something relatively low cost and reliable + 12 months MOT. And try not to spend money on it either. You'll only need it for a year.
Then you'll have the confidence for gears. Smile
Just enjoy it and ride safely Thumbs Up

Ye, but everyone's different.
If he's already had the experience of gears then he should go for it. Smile
Just because it looks cool to a 15 year old who wants to look good doesn't mean it will be plain sailing.

I went from riding my Suzuki Katana to my DAS course to a CG 125 an hour later then an hour after that I had a GS 500 shoved in my face!

All it requires is a little hand / foot coodination......it's not building a nuclear fission engine.

If he wants to make a few knickers wet with his bike then good on him. I think however the main point to the Op was not to get something expensive and save the rest until next year when he can do his test / get a better 125.

It's not even worth thinking about unless you have the mechanical knowledge to do it yourself.........and even then it's not worth thinking about!

Why are you looking on spending £2800 on your first bike?? If you do you'll be dry bum raped when you come to sell it a year later if it's in good nick but if you've thrown it down the road............well be prepared for a big loss.

Most people here have been in your position and have owned a lot of bikes. You should be looking to spend between 500 - 1000 on your first bike then hopefully you can sell it for the same in a year.
Shiny new faired bikes are not good news when combined with new riders.

If you must have a RS50 look on ebay where there are plenty between the above amount.

I know it seems like 17 is an eternity away, but I really suggest that you try to stay focussed on that.

As soon as you hit 17, you can do another CBT and get a 125 and/or start working towards your A2 test to get a proper, full A license with a 2 year 25kW restriction on it.

It's vital that you do that before 2013, since the licensing is all changing then, and not to your benefit. If you miss the boat and don't get a full license in 2012, then you'll be stuck on 125s until you're 19, then you'll have to do two tests to get a full A license. Thumbs Down

So I'd recommend saving up for your A2 test at 17, rather than blowing your wad now on a 50cc that you'll get rid of as soon as you can anyway. Definitely don't buy anything newish - older bikes depreciate much less. Just get the cheapest running 50cc with a long MOT you can find. Geared, scooter, doesn't matter - it's just to get you learning bike and roadcraft.

I mean, unless your plan is to get some pimped out sports 50cc, pull as many bike-groupie slags as you can for a year (but remember, you can't take them pillion), and then die in a pathetic 30mph accident just before your 17th birthday. In which case, RS50 is the way to go. Thumbs Up

Is it me or do you have more money than sense? Neutral
Why would you even consider spending £2899 on a 50cc? Shocked
I bought my Suzuki AY50 back in December for £300, 11 months MOT & Tax. A little worse for wear, but it runs and that's all that matters. Thumbs Up
I also bought the cheapest 3rd party insurance I could find. £167 with Rampdale.
Then I'll save up some money over the year, put another years MOT on the Suzy and sell it on.
And hopefully get a nice 125.
I'd highly reccomend going along the same route.
You want to spend the bare minimum on your first 50.
Then spend all your money on a decent 125 and keep it for a few years.
Trust me. If you go and blow everything on a 50cc, you will regret it later on.
