Replaced clutch and throttle cables today on the yamaha on Saturday, so thought I'd take the opportunity to remove and oil the drive chain. Put aside all three parts of split link safely (so I thought)

Completed all the jobs, time came to put chain back. Split link gone, French Connection UK. Small parts still there, main part vanished.

Spent all Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning searching, decided I had lost the damn thing.

Ah well, at least drive chain is getting an extra long soak in engine oil ( Been in saucepan since Saturday afternoon)

I know I should have taken more care not to loose the split link, so laugh all you like at my foolishness !

Dan.

With all that soaking it'll be chain-fling galore.

did that ten times, combed the lawn, emptied the shed, sifted through gravel where I keep (and work on) the Yamaha.

Did not find part. It's gone ! Gods of Incompetence have spirited it away.

Please, carry on laughing at my inability to not lose part in first place !

Hi

Order a new one. And the old one will turn up about 5 minutes later.

All the best

Sure it will, I knew that before I spent several fruitless hours hunting for the damned thing !

Resigned to ordering a new one, I will then wait like a good idiot until it arrives.

I will never put a chain away again without its split link !

Most stuff i loose in the garage or on the forecourt is usually found right by one of the tyres.

Could have split it, then re-linked it, then lobbed it in the oil.

Declare loudly "This is the last place I'd look" - that should find it.

I , always use a strong telescopic magnet to find lost little things like that .
And , never work near a drain , cos if you drop a small nut - washer- spring etc, it's guaranteed to literally jump down into it Smile

Seriously man, stop looking for it and you will more than likely find it Laughing

When i last did the valve clearences, i stupidly tipped the cam cover upside down and 3 of the rubber washers fell out Rolling Eyes
I found 2 of them after about half an hour but the 3rd had me stumped! I must have been looking for about 40 mins when i decided to just carry on with the valves.

Just as i bent down to carry on, a little something caught the corner of my eye Shocked .................... Mr. Green

The little B*stard was hiding underneath part of the frame Laughing

Try local bearing factors. they usually have chains and split liks are usually very cheap. Or try the local bike shop. Often something they have plenty of.
