Hi guys!

My Honda X8R isn't running properly. It's smoking, constantly bogging, refuses to go over 15mph and takes an age to get there! A while before this started, I accidentally put marine 2t oil in it instead of bike 2t oil. When I realized, I didn't think it would harm as I thought it was basically the same thing. The performance started to lack a bit so I immediately changed the oil, cleared the oil pump (incase of blockage) and ran it for about 2 hours. I've also cleaned the carb, cleaned the jets and checked all hoses to make sure they weren't blocked.

I've also changed the spark plug and adjusted the jets but had no luck! I really don't know what's wrong with it.. Can anyone help me!?

Thanks, Josh.

Yeah I thought the exhaust could be blocked.. I was just going to clear it out with an air compressor.

Compression is fine.. The smoke is just white. When I stripped it down and started it.. It was running fine! It starts with no problems but it just doesn't want to rev!

Forgive me if I've got the wrong end of the stick totally but:-

From your post I gather you have put "marine 2 stroke oil" instead of the usual " 2Stroke oil"?

You have a Honda XR, that's a four stroke is it not?

Why would you "normally" be putting two stroke oil in a four stroke motorcycle?

Meant to put X8R and it's a 2Stroke engine.

The oil could have coked up the engine, my old ped did this when i used cheap stuff. Take the exhaust off and look into the bore to see if you can see anything.

2 stroke is 2 stroke is 2 stroke is!
The only problems with mixing different types of two stroke comes when you mix a synthetic oil with a mineral oil, you will end up with a very viscous gunk clogging up the system.
I would clean out all the 2 stroke system, all the pipes, the pump and the tank. once you're sure you've cleaned everthing out refill with new 2 stroke, fit a new plug and see how it goes from there.
