Is there a horn out there that will be an improvement on the shite that comes as standard. Preferably one that is a straight swap over and wont need a relay fitting

Assuming it's 12V, put a 6V horn on it. Works perfectly as long as you don't burn it out using it for minutes on end. Will be physically identical to stock item and cheap to boot.

Or a Stebel Magnum will do the job quite nicely without being as bulky.

I would agree but the Op says doesn't need a relay fitting. I have a nautillius on mine. I love scaring pedestrians with it. I made a woman almost lose control of her car once because of it, she was moving into my lane, a long blast of that caused her to veer the other way and she was swerving for what felt like 5-10 seconds, silly bint.

Never fitted the relay to any of the ones I have ever had on my vehicles (KLR600, ZZR1100, R1150Gs, Ford Sierra Saphire, Fiesta, Mondeo, another Mondeo, BMW 120d and 335i) and not had problems at all. A standard horn draws $hit loads of current as it is. As long as you do not blast the horn continuously for a long time then there will be no issues. Wink

Horn on the SV is more than pathetic, so i've just ordered a 12v air horn type thing for it - was about £4 + P&P.

Only thing though - there is 2x horns in the pack, i assume it's to give a dual tone note type thing, But does anyone know if it will still work (and be quite loud) if i just fit one unit?????

If they both have individual compressors then they will probably be fine, are they those snail shell shaped ones? they usually have their own compressors. Not sure what current they pull but would probably be best to fit it via a relay.

Yeah 2x snail looking things, will most likely fit via a relay anyway Karma

My stebel nautilus is currently fitted to a R125 with no relay and works just fine straight onto the original loom connections. They are louder if you run them through a relay with heavy gauge wire direct off the battery, and ear-bleedingly loud if you run them on 24V in your workshop Smile

First one I ever fitted I did so in my garage and never heard one before. So thought I would give it a quick "parp" to try it out . . . . . Brown trouser moment ensued followed by ringing ears for a while. Shocked

You think that's bad! I had one fitted to my YBR125 when I was still a learner, at the beginning of my test the examiner asked me " Can you demonstrate to me how you would check the horn is working" , Yes, you can guess what came next, He SHIT him self, It was so hard not to laugh at him it was one of the funniest things ive seen in a long time !
However , after we got back and I was told that I had passed ect, he asked me what it was and where you can buy them, as he wanted to fit on to his pan euro !
I have since fitted the Stebel to the BMW , it's twice as loud now, can only assume it's down to having a much larger battery.

I also have a Stebel Nautilus, the full size one not the compact. I run it through a relay because, as someone mentioned, it will not work as well on stock wiring due to insufficient current reaching it, they draw a whopping 25amps, far more than the standard horn circuit can cope with.

I had mine fitted neatly under the tank on my old Fireblade but it was a hell of a bother fitting it to my new one, ended up mounted behind the numberplate in the undertray but it's stowed neatly and is even louder than the previous method. I drive articulated trucks at work and none of them have horns as good, most are far more pathetic.

Jeez my Stebel Magnum is loud enough. (fitted with a relay)

You do realise you can remove the horn from the compressor and mount it with a length of hose. Makes fitting in confined spaces easy. Thumbs Up

Yes, I didn't have any hose though and tbh even seperated it would still present a problem, there really is not space on the Fireblade, under the seat I had the Power commander and needed space for other things. Inside the rear panels is totally rammed with stuff and it's the same story elsewhere. It fits where it is though so it's all sorted. No idea how loud the Magnum is but you wouldn't want louder than the Nautilus, I might take a video one day.

The Magnum is no comparison to the Nautilus. Tried one and it was taken off straight away as compared to the Nautilus it was whispering.

The Stebel Nautilus is not just a horn.

It's a 'GET TO FUCK OFF!!!' horn.

Don't dismis the relay, it's simple to fit and well worth the effort if it needs it.

I have a Stebel Nautilus sitting in my garage at home. Tried for ages to find somewhere to put it on my CBR600rr but no such luck. Shame, as I love scaring old women....
