Yet another puncture. Waiting to be rescued. Who puts sealant in their Tyres and does it really work?
I'm not keen on using it at every change due to the added costs but being sat here like this fairly regularly is pissin me off

I had 3 punctures in my last rear. The first I plugged with a mushroom patch (from the inside). The second one I just used that Slime stuff. (The bright green one that's actually called Slime). This also catered for the 3rd.

I found it to be good and it worked for me. However it is really messy when changing the tyre. I would not use it in every tyre, but I would use it again if I got a puncture.

That said, I now carry one of those tyre plugging kits with me.

You can use a mushroom thingy or the green slim they both work as well as one another. The slim is easiest in my opinion as it can be done before a ride out.

Oh and there pretty safe at speed too, i did cadwell trackday with mine Laughing

I carry a plugging kit but find the avons don't take them very well, thinking slime or similar would stop them as they happen and remove the need to try a plug. If it's going to cost £25 a set thats another £150+ a year i'm going to have to spend on stopping puncyures.

Plugged this one and made it home, tyre soft on arrival home.

I wouldn't use the Slime as prevention, purely because of the mess (I change my own tyres). However I would use it again if I get another puncture. OK, this means it won't work as a puncture prevention measure, and may mean carrying a pump of some sort, but:

1. It means I don't get covered in green slime every time I change a tyre.

2. It means I don't have to pay for a bottle of Slime every time I fit a new tyre.

I thought this type of sealant coated the tyre and sealed a leak as it happened.

Not sure what it would do to handling, but you could always fit tubes and fill them with slime. Removes the mess and saves you money in the long run.

i used the Slime too, definatley thumbs up from me. i used it to seal the rim of an RS50 that the was loosing pressure in 45 minutes at its worst, took a chance on slime to atleast slow it down, and it solved the problem totally. also used it in both my ZZR's and cant fault it at all....i dont change my own tyres, so i dont know how messy it can be, and the prices on stuff at my local bike dealer, i hope it goes every where - make them work for my money!

How many sets of tyres do you go through? A set every 8 weeks?
I use pincture seal, gloop, slime what ever is on the shelf at the time. I look at £25 for each set against how much a puncture would cost in repairs and time, also peace of mind. Yes it is messy when the tyres are changed, but at £15 to change a set of tyes it is worth getting someone else to do it.

i forgot to say, a mechanic friend of mine also races moto cross.
he recommended slime to me, and said the best place to get it from was farm supplies shops! they sell the same stuff for use in the quads, tractors etc, but in bigger quantities and for less money...the shops know farmers are tight fisted and that us bikers splash the cash a bit more!

It does - but there's no reason why you can't use it after the puncture. That's what I did.

It stays in liquid form, so as you get more punctures they get sealed. But this is also the reason for the mess when changing the tyre.

According to Marmalade's signature, he (she?) does 60,000 miles per year - that's a lot of tyres....

I can't understand why some people always get punctures, I reckon I have clocked up 60k miles on various bikes and only ever had 2 punctures (the second being last night.) I have never had to be recovered for it either, first time I rode to a garage and bought some tyre weld which sealed it. Last night I filled it up and it lasted the journey home. Both punctures have been on the front too which I also believe is less common than the rear. Most of my riding is the A13/Streets of London, which aren't know to be clear of road debris.

Could also be riding a lot in hatched areas on the road. These are well known for collecting rubbish on the roads.

He, Very Happy yes about every 6/8 weeks for a set of tyres.

I think these avon tyres i use now break up too easily once punctured, really does knacker the carcass and even if you were lucky enough to get a plug to seal properly the area around it bulges once inflated.
The bridgestones i used to use plugged more readily but don't handle as well and cost more per mile.
Tried 2 tins of tyreweld and a plug on a tyre on the way to manchester a few months back, got me there in stages and some of the way back but gave up eventually on the side of the road with a smoking tyre.

I'd gone from home (salisbury) to London to Bristol and was nearly at Portsmouth when it went, took 3/4 mins to go down so wasn't the neighbours, if they had a problem it'd be more likely a 12 bore to the block than anything.
In the sticks out here, have you seen hot fuzz?

This is quite likely, i'm not one to sit in the traffic
