Hey, There is a problem with the engine where the power drops off momentarily when going in a straight line but this has only been noticed on a recent ride and was o.k before the bike wasnt used much so is expected from the local mechanic to just be sticking piston rings due to lack of use.

what do you guys think it is?

could be a multitude of things.

poor fuelling, carburettor issues. ignition issues i.e. spark plug, lead etc.

fuel pipes could be blocked or have a kink in them. could be a lot of different things. could you be more specific about when it happens? how much fuel do you have in the tank? are you on reserve when this happens? does it return to full power quickly?

piston rings doesn't sound obvious to me, if it was 'piston rings' due to 'lack of use' then it would always be down on power or seized. the issues would be more constant then i can tell that they are at the moment.

look forward to a bit more information.

it could be something really simple like a good once over on the carb and clean it out or it could be something a bit more techincal, there are a lot of bikes out there so you can be picky.

for a lot of people having to tinker with your bike on a weekly basis to get to work is an annoyance of the highest order, some on here would disagree though Wink

correct link. first and foremost, your 16, the law only allows you to have a moped which will not exceed the speed of 30 mph. the boring bit out the way.

why not just get a standard bike that hasn't been messed with? or even a scooter that has been de-restricted if you are determined. its just that you never know how well this work has been carried out.

he does say its runs and has m.o.t. so i suppose it may not be all bad, looks nice. 5'9'' i would expect you to fit fine on it, these type of machines are aimed at 16 year old people and as such are not massive. always best to have a sit on one if you can though. are you near enough to go and have a look?

are you thinking of a scoot that will go beyond 30mph? even though it would be illegal but that would be your choice.

this 4 stroke number will not be able to go any quicker no matter what you do really. Chinese bikes and scoots are getting better but have some issues with build quality still hanging over them, many opt for Japanese metal that's older. google the make and model see what's being said but bare in mind that most reviews written by people are written in anger.

i would just rover ebay for a cheap scooter maybe a peugeot or aprilia would suit you fine. just check it over and don't go for anything with mental miles or loads of kit bolted on, recipe for disaster IMHO.

these two would be my favourite picks. up to you though my mate, all trial and error. they both seem to be good bikes. no harm in asking questions before you buy then if it isn't what was promised you can just walk away.

happy scooting Thumbs Up I remember how excited i was when i was 15 waiting for my 16th birthday. cbt the freeeeedoooom

enjoy it. stay safe and listen to the instructor, it could save your life!

cat 'c' bikes can be an issue, there isn't much info on the advert. have a conversation with the guy see what he says. category 'c' means that the vehicle was well beyond economical repair and will have needed a check over and a stamp of sorts on the logbook to say its road worthy after repairs are carried out. try and find out what damage was done and why it is a cat 'c' not a 'd'

cheap isn't always cheerful Thumbs Up
