IT all looks pretty tame to me, but then i expect i've been desesitised to on screen speed by playing computer games and watching a lot of racing. I expect if i were in that car or on that bike i'd have shit myself on the first corner Laughing

I've done the course many times on the PS2 on GT4. Even spent a good few hours doing the endurance one there and every lap was the same deal. "I've been round the course enough to know the course now" and every lap I failed. Its just way too big to learn all the corners and best lines to take in the safety of your own house on a game let alone doing it for real.

I remember a Top Gear eppisode once where Jeremy went around Laguna Seca on GT3 and then in the same car on the real course and the difference was enormous.

Get that Escuda car on GT4 and then you dont need to worry about the shape of the course. Flat out all the way and the car bounces off the barriers all the way round. Tests have proven it to be faster than slowing down for each corner. Laughing

Bollocks. I could talk you round a lap no probs, I've only been there once (12 laps). Of course I've played it loads in GT, watched tons of videos and am slightly obsessed, but it s not way too big to learn.

I wish I had been born when my dad had been, he got the best times - he would have been 23 in 1967.

I love watching those older clips.

This is probably my favourite, it reminds me of, wet, winter saturday afternoons, when I was a nipper, watching the scrambling and rallycross on Grandstand then flicking over to ITV to watch the wrestling!

There's no way they are at racing speeds, with the tyres available then they would have been drifting around some of the bends if they were!

The lead car pulling away at the start of the straight gives it away.

I used to think I knew the course perfectly after many hours on Gran Turismo, but when I actually went to the Nurburgring and did a few laps for real, it was nothing like I remembered!

The games give you a good sense of the general layout of the course, but nothing prepares you for the bumps, adverse camber and changing grip level - especially in the wet!

totally the same for me.
played it on pgr3 like a fucking maniac before i went there and it did almost nothing. i had a rough idea of where i was but it's so overwhelming being there you seem to lose all sense of place.

hoping to go back with some mates in june to watch the 24 hour race.

The only thing which I found you just don't get a sense of is the gradient - at some points it is like riding off a cliff. Other than that I thought it was pretty close to the game tbh.
