Well all this talk of drifting and I sort of did one today by accident. Was wet I looked down and was doing 30-40mph nice gap in front (as far as I can remember) one car in front and clear road ahead of her. She braked so I did too but then decided to stop completely, at this point I was still braking but realised I wasn't going to stop so added more pressure front and rear which resulted in what felt like both ends locking up?? Front slid one way and rear the other and back again. I put my left foot down to stop me from dropping it, after I stopped I tried to horn but as usual I found the indicator again I guess this whole thing is partly my fault
Second was completely my fault when I saw a guy about to step on the crossing and put too much on the rear. I was going quite slow so it wasn't too bad, was pretty cool actually
Well you learn from your mistakes and now I know what it feels like to lock up the wheels! ____________________ Bikes : 2006 CBR125R - 2004 Monster 620ie - 2004 ZX-6R B1H - 2005 Monster S2R 800 - 2011 Street Triple - 2009 Streetfighter 1098 - 2014 ZX-6R 636

Would it have helped if the damper was on? |
Firstly, I think this is worthy of a 'Cool Story Bro' pic. Unfortunatly I'm too lazy to find one, but I hope someone brings one along soon, they rock.
Secondly, I agree with the can't remember. I think it's actually why helmets are mandatory under UK Law, its because when something like this happens we pull a stupid face, the helmet keeps us looking cool
From the slow speed rear locks i've had, all have been fairly straight line jobs and equalled out without really knowing what i've done. I dont think the damper helps too much as I cant say i'd noticed a difference between my 03 or 07 RRs - the 07 has a damper, the 03 didnt.
The biggest thing i've noticed is square or low tread (in wet) normally makes it a damn site easier to lock up the back, especially with any moderate front braking.
Most out of shape one i've had was on my 125 but that was a cruiser layout, the entire back done about 35 deg and came to a stop, that was quite interesting... ____________________ Current Bikes: Honda CBR 600RR - '07, Suzuki GSX1250 FA ST '11

Looks like you locked it or skidded.
Do you normally ride very slow? ____________________ Hit the G spot. |

Reading some of the opinions/theories proffered here makes me realise why so many BCFers keep chucking their bikes down the road.

I choose not to use rear braking unless i'm in town at low speeds where the front is too agressive to use.
In emergency stops the rear will nearly always lock due to the shift in weight over the front, hence why i don't use it and tend to get a better 'feel' for the front. Only the front brakes will pull you up fast.
I sometimes use the rear along with the front for longer higher speed controlled stops.
Not saying i'm using them correctly but that's how i use them. |

Theres a particular roundabout near mine with HORRENDOUS adverse camber, made worse by lumpy tarmac where gaz mains have been dug up in the past. EVERY time I have to use that lane i drift. Fun but not pleasant. I'm not exactly unfamiliar with lockup's either, but I tend to stay calm and give it more of a "oo, cheeky" than a "FUCK I'M GONNA DIE" reaction. It's worked for me Never came off. Even when my front end slid out about a foot on some ice, I managed to stay calm... Maybe i'm just stupid? not complaining ____________________ 57 Huoniao HN125-8 - , 97 Kawasaki GPZ500S -

I used the rear because it was wet! I thought that's what you're supposed to do
Tyres are front: Pirelli Diablo something and rear is Maxxis something. TBH the rear looks a bit rubbish for wet riding.
There were no skips or hops just a smooth slide, the first was all over the place because the front locked as well and went its own way. The second must have looked pretty cool
With the first I got caught out because I didn't expect her to stop as the road was clear and the only way she could go was straight as there are no side roads until further up ____________________ Bikes : 2006 CBR125R - 2004 Monster 620ie - 2004 ZX-6R B1H - 2005 Monster S2R 800 - 2011 Street Triple - 2009 Streetfighter 1098 - 2014 ZX-6R 636

Be fair on him. I think he is young and likes to post on forums, thus why he made loads of threads on what do you think of this bike before purchasing the B1H. When you aren't 100% sure on thigs, you will post on here and ask questions.
The other issur is that he doesn't like to ride extremely fast which he said himself. Not sure what the monster is like but anyway surprisng that he hasn't lock up before, but again, he has said he likes to take it easy.
I feel his lack is rev/ speed was also confirmed with the fact that he said the B1H was quiet. It is in low revs but hit 8, and especially 12k it isn't at all.
Maybe the name racer is misleading or what not, but he is young. ____________________ Hit the G spot. |
