BSOD

keep getting a BSOD on my new pc. the error message is page fault in non-paged area. this makes me believe it is a RAM problem. i have done a 3/4 hours memtest and it completed several passes and that has turned up no errors. when i get in i will try taking one stick out at a time and seeing if the error still occurs.
i will also try running ultimatebootcd and see if this turns up anything.
the pc in question does not have an Internet connection so can't do any online stuff. the motherboard and peripheral drivers are all up to date with the latest version.
i also get problems when running my linux distro. basically everything freezes. i am unable to move the mouse or type anything and am forced to do a hard reset.
temps are all fine. BIOS gives a running temp of around 30 degrees. Nothing is OC either.
any ideas?

If it's a custom made jobby, I'd do as Hetzer says and remove the sticks out one at at a time.

I've had ram pass mem tests but one particular module has been the cause of numerous bsods.

Also, do you have a mixture of diffent ram modules (different speeds in particular) as this can sometimes cause issues.

Failing that, I've had a few bsods caused by overloading the PSU - what power output is your PSU giving you and is it enough? Think about any cooling systems you have in place (fans/liquid), and any passive USB devices etc. I used to stick a beefy fan onto any spare molex and ended up blowing the psu (after numerous bsods).

nope pair of matched RAM modules.
can't imagine i am overloading the PSU. gold 650Watt
i calculated that i would be roughly using at full load around 500watts.

but then why would my system also crash when running linux. unless it is possible for both OS's to have unstable drivers for my hardware

Have you set the ram timings?

Yours should be 9-9-9-20 @ 1.7v

i am 99% sure the timings are correct off the top of my head
although i think i am 1.65V. (low voltage ram)
will double check voltages when i get home

have you set them yourself or expected the bios to do it for you?

If its happend since you built the system it could be that you need to update the motorboard BIOS. I had problems with memory leaks and bsod's and they were fixed by a bios update.
Just make sure you follow the instructions.

the bios automatically set them up. all i did was check them when i browsed through the bios when i set up the pc

looks like it is solved. hasn't crashed at all today. ram voltage was at 1.55V. should have been at 1.65V.

FWIW

I had a huge custom build rig for a customer last year. This was a hugely over powered rig for what he wanted.

Kept failing on something, throwing up a BSOD. Got each bit swapped out, still happened.
Even tried new PSU and a new case, yet still BSOD.

It was pissing me off.

How did i fix it you may ask yourself.

okay not fixed.
crashed again today. 2days without a BSOD. downloaded the bios update. will perform later. i believe it is graphics card causing the problems. was rendering NFS badly. aero stopped working. then explorer. then BSOD.

could be the motherboard is shit? Had this with my friend's new build PC years ago, BSOD all the time randomly, so got another motherboard and all was fine, it wasn't even a high spec meachine either. Just built for uni stuff

been running a few memtest v4.10 when i first switch the computer on for the day and it will bring up a few thousand errors. if i switch the pc off by the mains and then switch it back on and run memtest again it will not show any errors. i can then use the computer fine for the rest of the day and it will not crash. everytime it crashes it will always crash within the first minute or two. it never crashes after being used for an extended period of time.
i have tried this will one stick at a time and both sticks give errors (a different amount of errors) and in different slots aswell. unfortunately i don't know anyone that has any ddr3 that i could borrow for a day and test.
any ideas what the problem could be. latest bios is installed. memory timings and voltages are correct

The memory controller on the mobo could be buggered,

I had a similar game with memtest on a laptop.

laptop was stripped for parts, wasnt worth replacing parts.
