Often they just wire to a live with ignition wire (like the sidelight on modern bikes) with a switch in between - if you're getting fancier, you use a relay.

I recently fitted mine with no experience at all, quite easy if you follow the instructions, go on to youtube and watch some vids of them being fitted. You can wire them direct to battery or splice into the ignition feed which is better as theres no chance you will drain your battery if you forget to turn them off.

Ok thanks for the help. I cant find any good vids on how to install them on youtube. They're all the actual grips not the pads Sad

Is it these?
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OXFORD-MOTORCYCLE-MOTORBIKE-ESSENTIAL-HOTGRIPS-HOTHANDS-/220698626302?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3362a9c8fe

Just wrap around your existing grips and wire direct to battery, there is a on off switch.
Thumbs Up

Some heated grips have a built in sensor, so they know to turn off when the engine stops.

However many don't and thus will totally drain your battery. In that case it's best to use a relay. In that case follow this https://www.bikechatforums.com/download.php?id=53243

A detailed instruction complete with pictures, written by stinkwheel on here is available from:

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=192713&highlight=symtec+heated

there is a link to a similarly detailed thread, with similarly detailed pictures on how to wire up the relay contained in that as well.

I found it to be the most helpful whilst doing mine, and as I type I've remembered Ive left my grips turned on -but it doesnt matter because Ive used a relay so my bike will still start* when i go outside later!!!

It really is important to wire them properly, as coming back to a flat battery once is once too many times. Good news its really very simple to do.

The grips will be easier to fit than the pads.... once your old grips are off just slide on the new heated ones, wire up in the same way.

*hopefully, but if it doesnt start it wont be the grips causing it not too work - just one of the many other problems.....

Sack off the heated grip idea and go the whole hog with some Gerbings heated motorcycle gloves. Not cheap but they are awesome and guaranteed for life I believe.

Very toasty indeed with the elements covering your entire hands. Expensive yes, but worth every penny.

I haven't tried heated gloves yet (would like to) but from what other people have said, I still think either is better when combined with decent muffs - as this severely reduces the effect of the wind, so your hands stay a consistent temperature without the un-heated bits cooling down (heard some complain the inside of their hands too/cold outside too hot with the heated gloves; opposite for the grips of course.)

Well you can get a little temp controller for heated gloves.

I've used them on the coldest weather the South East has thrown at us and hands stay toasty! I don't have a temp controller and have never had a problem, I just use them when it's very cold, else I use my good pair of Alpinestar winter gloves.

Also above only applies to quality gloves, I'm specifically talking about Gerbing's, no cheap shite.
