I was wanting to do my mod2 on my own bike as it saves me the £50 my instructor charges to hire his bike for the test.

Besides which its the bike I ride everyday so im comfortable with it.

Only problem is my bike barely does 60mph, and its hard work getting to that point....

Its on the dsa approved list (cg125) so it should be ok for A2?

What happens if I only manage say 55 on any nsl parts of the test?

Quote:
Minimum test vehicle requirements for motorcycles
If your motorcycle is less than 75 cc it is not acceptable for the practical motorcycle test.
If you pass your practical test on a motorcycle with automatic or semi-automatic transmission, this will be recorded on your licence. Your full licence entitlement will be restricted to motorcycles in this category.
There are three different categories of machine you can use for your motorcycle test:
category A1 (light motorcycle) - a solo motorcycle between 75 and 125 cc, with a power output not exceeding 11 kilowatts - passing your test on a machine in this category will enable you to ride machines up to 125 cc as a full licence holder

category A2 (standard motorcycle) - a solo motorcycle between 121 and 125 cc, capable of exceeding 100 kph (62.5 mph) - passing your test on a machine in this category will enable you to ride machines with a power output not exceeding 25 kilowatts (33 brake horse power) as a full licence holder for a period of two years; after the two year period the restriction will be automatically lifted and you may ride larger machines

category A (unrestricted) – a solo motorcycle with a power output of at least 35 kilowatts (46.6 brake horse power) - passing your test on a machine in this category under the Direct Access Scheme or Progressive Access Scheme will enable you to ride a motorcycle of any engine size and power output

The last part doesnt apply to NI as far as I know but A2 is fine on the CG Thumbs Up

Cheers.....see its on the dsa approved list of bikes so if I turn up on it theyll let me do the test.....but if we hit a NSL and theres a headwind then no way will I be hitting 60...

They say exceed 62.5 but as a learner I guess I wont be anywhere with a speed limit over 70!

Guess its just the euro aspect.

All I can say (and hope-for my test is tomorrow- also on a CG) is that, the examiner will take into consideration winds and the fact that the bike is only 125cc.

Fact is- just try as hard as you can to do that speed limit(if safe) by using the lowest gear possible and stretch the gears but if an increase of speed does not happen then that's all you can do. if it is clear- but obviously if it is in a country lane- Who the bloody hell does 60 around country lanes in reality?

It's fine, I don't think they really give a monkeys as long as you've booked an A2 and you crack on when it's safe to do so. I came along clutching the DSA list showing my debranded Chinese copybike bike as A2, but didn't even get asked what it was.
